(Wassink photo) C3iidoo teens andel .finfte•tw@Qwo Well miss the McKnights BY TRISH RI MMER When I first began writing my column. 1 was advised to, stay from topics involving sex, religion and politics. I have tried really hard to avoid these topics in past columns. l hope that today's column will not'offend anyone as it is not based on religion, but on a person working for the Mini- stry. {'- David McKnight and his wife Merelyn came to Eg- mondville United Church abc;tt tivo years ago. Instant- ly they made a good impres- sion on the congregation as they became involved in church and community func- tions. Now, after a short stay in this area, the McKnights are considering moving on. 1 first met Mr. McKnight . and his wife at the Egmond- ville United Church supper. They were very friendly and I knew then that they fit right into our community. Over the year 1 heard nothing but high praise for the Mc - Knights and the work they were doing for the church and other functions in the com- munity. Mrs. McKnight is organist for the church and has a lovely soprano voice that contributed to the church choir. Mr. McKnight has a way with words that makes anything, even sermons, in- teresting. A BIG FAMILY It wasn't until rehearsals for the production of the Fantastiks began that I came to know David McKnight. As I have mentioned in previous columns, the cast of the Fantastiks was like a big family. David McKnighrwas one of the key members of this family and made even the tensest moments fun. He always said the right thing at the right time and made-the—Ermondville and Seaforth McKnights with a smile and remember Hucklebee "in light". If you know of anyone who will be celebrating a birthday Rm.work a little more n. Of course, he didn't do all of this single-handedly; everyone in the cast liked to have fun and enjoy the singing and danc- ing, even during our breaks. All that I am saying is David McKnight was a plea- sure to work with for - this production and 1 am sure he was a pleasure to work with in all the other things he was involved in. If you had a chance to see the production of the Fantastiks in March, I'm sure that you will agree with me that he made a very good Hucklebee. "'CALL ME DAVID" You may have noticed that throughout my column, 1 have been calling him Mr. McKnight and David Mc-. Knight. The reason for this is that -Mr. gives him the respect that he deserves but David is what he. often urged people to call him. On the street, he appeared to be nothing but friendly and polite. He has a way of cheering you up and bright- ening the grayest of days. I've heard many- times about the many visits he pays to the hospital and the nursing homes. David McKnight is a friend to both young and old and we certainly are going to miss him. Seaforth has many good ministers and priests and we are lucky in that respect. The new minister coming to Eg- mondville this summer is a young graduate. and I'm sure that she will do a great job. However, it will be a sad day for myself and many others when it is time to say good-bye to David McKnight and his wife Merelyn. We wish them the very best in what ever they decide to do.• [1appy bON © w ll always remember the THE HURON EXPOSITOR, JUNE 22, 1983 — A17 soon, please send their name, age and birthdav to: The Huron Expositor, Box 69, Seaforth, Ont. or phone 527- 0240. It brought back many memories of when Russell, Verna and family lived in Brodhagen and owned the general store quite a few years ago. They attend many functions at the community centre here in Brodhagen to keep in touch with local folks which all dearly appreciate. Congratu- lations Verna and Russell on your 50th wedding anniver- sary whichis on June 22. And may God grant you many more years together. THE THREE LEGGED RACE at the Brussels public school offered one challenge to the participants. It was, how to keep standing. SharieJacklin and Darren Bauer didn't have much luck, as was the case with most students who participated in Play Day last week.
