Eva Netzke celebrated her 90th birthday last week. THE HURON EXPOSITOR, JUNE 22, 1983 — A11 90 year —old jokes she might apply fora .job at factory On her way to Huron - view in Clinton for an after- noon of card -playing, Eva Netzke told her companion that she might go into the furniture factory and apply for a job. Although the woman who just celebrated her 90th birthday was joking, her remark is an example of the vitality she still enjoys, Born in Mildmay and mar- ried there in 1914 to David Netzke, she moved to Sea - forth in 1933 with her hus- band, and lived on a farm in Harpurhey while he was in the army. When they moved into town in 1940, she got a job at Scott Memorial Hospi- tal (now the Seaforth Manor) and worked there for 20 years washing dishes, scrubbing floors, making beds and doing laundry. "It was hard work. We worked from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in those days," she says. During World War 11, she tried to sign up and contri- bute to the war effort by cleaning or cooking for the army but she was not accept- ed so she continued working at the hospital and as a babysitter while looking after her own children, Rose, Jean, Roy and Melvin. A lifetime member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Anglican Church, she also cleaned the St. Thomas Ang- lican Church for five years until the work become too strenuous for her, in 1973. Mrs. Netzke now spends her time working at her quitting and embroidery as well as going to Huronview every Friday to play cards, visit and just "have some fun." She spent a quiet birthday at home with her husband, her daughter Rose and sgv- eral grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, her son Mel from London and his family visited on the week- end. $2..\\1''e SENIOR CITIZENS )(,O of Seaforth and District for their past & continuing work in our community!
