The Huron Expositor, 1983-06-01, Page 7Legion golfers have a good day on course Not having a column in the paper last week owing to the holiday weekend and an early deadline, we have a few dates to report. A week ago last Saturday 20 golfers and guests accom- panied sports officer Jim Watson to Sarnia to play golf. The weather was exception- ally good that day and every- body had a good time regard- less of the scores. Ian Doig had the best score of the guests and Steve Bennett the best score with a 69 overall. This could very well turnout to be a yearly event. Friday an installation team of ladies and men attended the Exeter Branch to instal their officers of the Branch and of the Ladies Auxiliary. After the ceremonies the evening was spent dancing, with a lunch served by the Exeter Ladies Auxiliary. On Saturday "Exeter Branch re- ciprocated by installing our officers of the Branch and Auxiliary . Seaforth and Exe- ter have been exchanging for this ftinction now for almost 20 years with very few years missed. We hope we have many more years of this comradeship. The month of June is going to be busy at the Branch between sports and enter - tainment. This coming Satur- day will be Bill and Norma Eisler's 25th wedding anni- versary party in the hall. We wish Bill and Norma another 25 years of happy bliss. The following Saturday, June 11 will be our mixed two -ball four -some. Tee -off time will be around three p.m. with a pot -luck supper back at the branch afterwards and then an evening of dancing with the 'music of "Lively Lou". If any member is in touch with an out of town member please remind them of the change of date from June 18 as was originally announced in the bulletin that was sent out, to June 11. Other dates coming up are Honors and Awards night with an initiation on June 18. Thirty-nine years ago June 6 marks the anniversary of the invasion of Europe when thousands of allied soldiers lost their lives, to liberate the western European nations. In France, Holland and Bel- gium, the cemetaries testify to the many thousands of Canadian soldiers who did THE HURON EXPOSITOR, JUNE 1, 1093 — A7 not return home again. Those who went in on day one and days to follow, the memory of those events will never be forgotten, and those who died we Shall Remember Them. The branch was saddened this week to learn of the death of one of our First war veterans, Andrew Houston. To comrade Houston's family and friends we offer our sympathies in the Toss of a loved one. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we shall remember them. -Gordon Scott P.R.O.
