Morris taxes increase 5.31
•
Morris township ratepay-
ers will see a 5.31 per cent
increase on the municipal
portion of their 1983 taxes. In
dollars, a farm with a $6,000
assessment will pay $14.04
more than the 5264.60 1982
township portion. A final mill
'rate will be struck to include
the county and the board of
education levy.
In 1982, taxes only in-
creased .82 per cent at the
local level. The total in-
crease,. including school
board and county, was 7.29
per cent.
The increase is necessary
because there was only a
S1b1,000 surplus in 1982
compared to 520,000 the
previous year, says clerk
Nancy Michie. Budgeting for
a new grader also affected
the five per cent rate hike.
A completed budget will be
presented to gcouncill 'at the

A problem with dogS at-
tacking her sheep was again
presented to council by
Emma Bird. She asked when
she would receive a livestock
valuer's report concerning an
incident where a ewe aborted
its Iamb after a dog attack.
The ewe was examined by
a veterinarilm who certified
the lamb had' been aborted.
She said her sheep are
presently healthy and in the
past week she has had five
newborn lambs from four
ewes.
Council had not been
presented with a livestock
valuer's report. It was decid-
ed to resolve the matter at
the May 9 meeting
