Authority is cutting down on
expenses so the residents

MEALS ON WHEELS rolled out of the Brussels, Morris and Grey community centre
Tuesday, May 3 with 29 meals served to citizens in the community. The Mennonite
church took the initiative to start the Meals rolling, but the project Is meant to be a
community effort. Miriam Zehr, co-ordlnator, said there are nine volunteers and more
would be appreciated. "We have received good reports back and are pleased with the
response." Meals are prepared once a week, every Tuesday at noon. Shown from left are

Meals on Wheels roll
Meals on, Wheels had a smooth and
successful beginning in Brussels, Tuesday,
May 3. Recipients of the meal said that it
was delicious and only $3. delivered with
hot food. The meal consisted of baked
chicken and scalloped potatoes served in a
foil covered plate: mixed vegetables,
coleslaw and apple crisp all in their own
sytrofoam containers.

val. Many hours went into
preparing music for the festi•

pleased with the work of
these 26 young people. In all,
they received first. second
and third prizes in eight out of
11 entries.
Those winning certificates
in solo vocal classes were
names on Monday as she calls everyone
again Monday to be sure they remember or
are able to be home Tuesday to get their
ordered dinner. More volunteers would be
appreciated;
Four volunteer drivers and three helpers
delivered -.the 28 dinners. The BMG has
given the use of the arena facilities free of
charge. Ladies who prepared the meal
were: Annie and AI•eda Shantz, Marg
Taylor, Marian Wideman, Ida Evans and
Miriam Zehr. Betty Gowing, Anne Heming-
way, and Margaret McLeod helped Miriam
and her morning workers deliver the meals.
Legion pipe band
get Mayor's Trophy
April 29, the Legion Pipe
Band and members of Brus-
sels Legion Branch 218, with
their colours, went by bus to
Standish, Michigan, where
they attended the Loyalty Day
Parade for the V.F.W. and
the American Legion on Sat-
urday.
The band received the
Mayor's Trophy for the best
marching band on parade.
The band and their friends
have been going every year
choir at festival
Heather Hopper, Torn Cull,
Michael Jardin and tan Mor-
ton. Winners in piano classes
were Steven Coupes and
Patrick Cull.
A senior piano student of
Mrs. Morton, Suzanne Alton,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

4, when each member enter-
tained her mother, daughter
or guest. There were 65ladies

A tile drainage application
of S15,100 was accepted by
the May 2 meeting of coun-
cil. Interest for 1983-84
drainage loans has been set at
eight per cent. Loans for 60
per cent of the cost of a
project will be accepted on a
first come, first serve basis.
No appeals were heard on
the Pratt Drainage Works.
Tenders were opened for the
project with one late tender
to be returned to DWR
Drainage. Armco Canada
Ltd., will supply pipe at
S1,150.60. The tile tender for
$19,116,65 was awarded to
Great Lakes Pipe Co. Ltd.
The construction tender was
awarded to B. & E. Mar-
quardt Tiling Contractors
Ltd., for S25,970.13.
Authorization was given to
the road superintendant to
go ahead, with road con-
struction on sideroad 30-31,
concession one. Gravel for
the project will be supplied

Howard Bernard, Brussels fits chief, has
resigned. After having served this commun-
ity well for 24 years he has certainly earned
the right to retire. The members of the
Brussels fire brigade, the council, and
residents no doubt regret his resignation
after his long devotion to such duties.
Once again it has been proved in no
uncertain manner that Canada can breed
superior race horses. Sunny's Halo, last
Sunday, won the Kentucky Derby. In that
field of twenty that beautiful animal outran
them all in the home stretch. How envious all
those U.S. millionaire race horse owners -
must have been. Sunny's Halo. is owned by
Toronto stockbroker David (Pud) Foster.

With registration for softball having taken
place it looks as if the ball park will be a busy
place this season • good recreation for
participants and entertainment for fans.
More coaches and players are needed for
some teams. So. sports minded folks come
forward quickly and give all teams a chance
for a successful season on the ball diamond.
Ontario did not escape the result of the
disastrous weather in the U.S. A series of
small tornadoes with violent storms swept in
a wide swath throughout Western Ontario
bringing torrential rain and high winds.
Hones. and business places were dam-
aged. hundreds of trees and power lines were
felled. A number of people were injured_ but
fortunately no deaths were reported. Damage
is expected to exceed $10 million.
