When someone assaults you with angry
words remember - a soft answer turneth
away wrath.
Will he? Won't he? At time of writing
Premier William Davis had not tossed his hat
into the ring to engage in the fray for the Tory
leadership. Nor has he shut the door on that
possibility. He seems to be thoroughly
enjoying being a teaser, keeping everyone
(those who care about what decision he
makes) playing a guessing game.
The controversial Canadian films, "If You
Love This Planet" and two others on "Acid
Rain". leaped into instant fame when
President Reagan of the U.S. declared them
foreign government propaganda. Politicians
and citizens in both countries were outraged
at his labelling. The films that had not created
much interest prior to that declaration were in
demand in both countries. Reagan's action
gave them greater publicity than they would
otherwise have had. Groups in Canada and
the U.S. have arranged showings that attract
full crowds to learn what they are all about.
Perhaps the outcome will be pressure on
Reagan "and his government for more
cooperation with Canada in anti-nuclear
activities and the acid rain probrem.

What next? We have become accustomed
to hearing about people being kidnapped but
- dognapping. A man in Vancouver has
dognapped his estranged wife's Maltese
terrier and is holdin'g it for ransom. He is
demanding 53000 for the return other pet and
has threatened to cut off the dog's paws and
mail them to her if she docs not pay. The
amount of the ransom, the lady has said,
matches the amount she took from their joint
bank account when th'v split ,'' H."
businessman husband, she said, is a
vindictive person and would do just what he
threatened if she does not pay. It is hoped she
can raise the money or that the police can
rescue her dog begfore that happens. Who
could bear the theaight of such cruelty to a
loved pet?

The Russian Bear is growling. Provoked
into threats by President Reagan's and
NATO plans to begin deploying cruise
missiles in Europe by the end of the year the
Soviets are angry. A top Russian official has
warned that if that is done Russia would not
only add to their missiles in Europe but
deploy them near the U.S. border. That is
interpreted by Western analyists to mean
nuclear -tipped rockets in Cuba. Can we
expect Reagan to pull back and the Soviets to
withdraw their threat? It seems some people
are determined to bring us, repeatedly, to the
brink of a devastating nuclear war.

Did you see the Toiler Cranston special
"The Magic Planet" last Thursday evening?
It was a spectacular fantasy on ice that could
only have been dreamed up by the creative
brain of our imaginative world -famed Cana-
dian figure skater Toiler Cranston. In
addition to Toiler other skilled performances
took prominent parts as well as many other
skaters, also singers and dancers. Costumes
were beautiful, fantastic and fearsome.
Cranston took us, as an astronaut. to a
mysterious planet, into the clouds, and with
smoke and flame to the depths of the evil one
andhis minions. The lighting effects were
brilliant and amazing. Throughout was his
love triangle with a lovely lady of the Magic
Planet. It was a spectacular that one would
not expect to see on ice.

THE TALK
cOF
THETOWN
A meeting and a selling place at McLaughlin Chev-Olds.
People are asking us a very important question!
How much are we really paying for our cars? Lately interest rates have become a
gimmick - to sell new cars. A gimmick we at McLaughlin Chev-Olds feel is
misleading. In the past we have promised to always offer our customers a good
honest deal at all times. We believe in offering the best possible price on all new
and used vehicles. BEFORE YOU BUY - COMPARE. We are sure you will find
our bottom line the best without gimmicks. Just good old-fashioned truth!
