Junior Farmers
TALKING PROUD IN '83
The words Junior Farmers should be heard at all times of the
year! But in February and March, they should be especially
prominent. These two months are when Jr. Farmers are interested
in promotion and in recruiting new members. Junior Farmer week
(March.14-19) is a perfect focal point for Junior Farmers activities.
During this time' we are trying new ideas to recruit new members
and have them become involved .in our organization.
Before jumping into anything too deep we would like to give you
an idea on who Junior Farmers are and what they do and what they
stand for.
A Junior Farmer is anyone between the age of 15-29 of either
urban or rural life style. We are a community betterment
organization. provincial wide. willing to help with any community
happenitlg , . n A,... ' . PURPOSE .. 1 „ ow -kr
Under the motto "Self Help and Community Betterment" the
Junior Farmers organization provides opportunities for young
people to help themselves develop personally and to help better
their community. This is achieved through social and education
activites which satisfy the personal needs and interests of the
individual involved and through several projects which meet the
needs of their community.
The organization also helps to develop in its members a sense of
social responsibility. the ability to provide effective leadership and
an awareness of the duties of a citizen.
The Junior Farmers Association of Ontario provides co-ordination
and leadership to affiliate clubs and associations and opportunities
for these groups to participate in a variety of inter -club activities. It
serves as the means through which the basic and fundamental
principles of the Jr. Farmer program may be developed and
maintained throughout Ontario.
'RINCIPLES
The responsibilities of our club are: to provide a chance and a
challenge for youth to explore their individual talents and potential
in almost any area they wish, but with a special emphasis on
developing leadership skills, and how to understand and work with
people; to provide an opportunity for young people to be involved in

which are beneficial to themselves and/or their cominunity and to

nature which better the local community and beyond, demonstrat-
ing an interest and concern for social and economic needs.
•JUNIOR FARMER WEEK
During Junior Farmer week our club makes an effort in promoting
J.F. Last year Junior Farmer week was March 12-18. Ending the
'week, was a provincial wide conference, held this year in Hammon.
This year our theme is a challenge today for a better tomorrow.
We use Junior Farmer week to act and talk proudly of our own club
and organization. Many fund raising events happened during this
week provincial wide, held by J.F., and alt 'proceeds' go' to the.'
special charitable .projects.
This message is to anyone interested in joining Junior Farmers.
March is membership month. Our drive is for more members. Just
think, you may have the chance to do things that you never dreamed
of.
There are great opportunities to travel, to see the world. We
planned an exchange with Australia's Junior Farmers last summer
and about 60 Huron County Junior Farmers went to Australia and
New Zealand and surrounding areas for five weeks. We are not
always going on trips but we travel to Peterborough, Toronto,
Hamilton and surrounding areas for sports, dancing, musical and
public speaking competitions. Plus we are always willing to help our
community so remember we will support you if you are willing to
notice we are a well worth organization group of young, enthusiastic
people.
