IT WAS PUBLICspeaking time again at the Brussels public
school last week when students recited speeches in hopes of
advancing to the Brussels Legion Oratorical Contest. First

-Mr. Walter Colin Kerr of
Church St. in Brussels died at
Listowel Memorial Hpspital
on Friday, February 18. at the
age of 88.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Lula (Proctor) Kerr, son
John of Montreal and a
brother, Melville of Water-
loo. He is also survived by
three grandchildren.
Mr. Kerr was born in
Mornington Township and
worked as a station agent for
the CNR for 42 years at
various area stations. He also
served as reeve and council-
lor for the Village of Brussels
and was an active member of
Melville Presbyterian
Church.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, February 21 at
the M.L. Watts Funeral
Home with committal at the
Brussels Chtpel. Reverend
Ken Innes officiated. Inter-
ment was at the Brussels
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rae
Crawford, John McCutcheon,
Gordon Stephenson, Norman
Hoover, Calvin Krauter and
Jim McTaggart.
Donations to be sent to the
Melville Presb'gterian Church
Memorial Fund.
BESSIE A. JORDAN
Mrs. Bessie A. Jordan
(Smith) of Alexander St.
Maple Villa, Brussels, died in
Wingham Hospital on Sun-
day, February 20. at the age
of 84.
She is survived by her
husband John Jordan and
several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her
parents, Thomas Smith and
Annie Dodds and by a sister
and brother.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, February 22, at
the M.L. - Watts Funeral
Home, Brussels with commit-
tal from the Brussels Chapel.
Reverend Ken Knight offi-
ciated. Interment was at the
Brussels Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim
4. Knight, Jack Knight, Leslie
Knight. Murray Knight, Wil-
lis Knight, Harold Knight,
Mervyn Pipe, John Pipe and
Jim Davis.

CECIL L. ZURBRIGG
A resident of Elma St.,
ListowelyCecil Zurbrigg died
at the `` Listowel Memorial
Hospital on Mon. Feb. 21 in
his 73rd year. -
Born in Wallace township,
June 11, 1910, he was a son of
the late William Zurbrigg and
„Catherine Karges. Besides
his wife, the former Mabel
Gedcke. he is survived by two
daughters, Thelma, Mrs.
Don Bode of Seaforth, Shir-
ley, Mrs. Glenn Lamb. God-
erich7- two sons, Ken of
Kincardine. Lyle of Edmon-
ton; three brothers, Emerson
of Listowel, Norman of Illi-
nois.' USA, and Ralph of
Waterloo. He is also survived
by eight grandchildren.
Widely known for his mini-
ature farm, hand -carvings,
the collection, displaying old-
time farm operations, has
been carved and assembled
by Mr. Zurbrigg over the past
decade.
The collection was recently
transferred to the Ontario
Agricultural Museum at Mil-
ton where it will be on a,
permanent display.
Funeral service was held
from the Robert Trench Fun-
eral Home, Listowel, on
Thurs. Feb. 24. Rev. Cecil
Wittich officiated.
Interment, Fairview Ceme-
tery, Listowel.
BARBARA McLEOD
Mrs. Barbara McLeod of
the Ritz Villa, Mitchell, died
following a short illness. She
was in her 89th year.
She was born near Brod-
hagen and attended school at
SSNo. 4 Logan and wa
confirmed in the Lutherahi
Church, Brodhagen. She was
a daughter of Henry Wesen-
berg and Mary Beuerman.
Surviving are a daughter,
Mrs. John (Jean) Clark of
Mitchell. two sons, F. Spen-
cer McLeod and Elmer J.
McLeod both of London. One
brother George Wesenberg
of Brussels and one sister
Marie Cosby of Niagara Falls,
also 16 grandchildren and 19
great grandchildren. survive.
She was predeceased by
one grandson, Rodney Clark
and one son Kenneth McLeod
who died in the Listowel
arena crash in 1959. Also her
parerits and 5 sisters.
Funeral services and com-
mittal were held at Lock-
hardt's Funeral Home in
Mitchell Mon. Feb. 21. Rev.
A. Horst officiated. Inter-
ment in the church cemetery,
Brodhagen.
