BY KRIS SVELA •
The Seaforth recreation department is
planning for summer already and also some
events to relieve the March break blues with
activities for the age group from 14 to 17.
According to recreation director Bryan
Peter. several of the events scheduled are
aimed at offering this age group an
opportunity to become involved in orga-
nized activities, outside of other established
groups in town.
Summer plans include a boys' ball hockey
league and girls' softball league. Registra-
tion for both leagues is $40. Players,
coaches, sponsors and umpires -referees are
needed. Registration for the boys is
Monday, Mar. 28 at the community centre
and for the girls it is' Mar. 31.
Mr. Peter explains that the recreation
department is hoping to establish 12 to 16
teams in the boys hockey and 8 to 12 teams
in the girls' softball house league.
Success hinges on the response from the
community.
In addition to the two leagues, the
recreation department is also hoping to
establish a men's ball hockey league,
because of community interest. A meeting
is scheduled for Monday, Mar. 28, at 8:15 at
the Community centre. Tonics slated for
discussion ate, team or individual registra-
tion, fees, league schedule and rules and
regulations. A tentative time for games has
been set for Thursdays. The recreation
department is also ottering to co-ordinate
the program.
The recreation department is also plan-
ning a week of events for March break titled
Holiday Happenings. Events include bowl-
ing, swimming, skating, arts and crafts,
films and other sports and games. The
program is being offered to boys and girls
between the ages of eight and 13 and the
cost for the week is S25 which includes all
admissions.
If further information is needed contact
the recreation department at 527-0882.
