A104 -; THE HURON EXPOSITOR, FEBRUARY. 23, 1983 WHERE IS THE PUCK?—A Novice semi-final consolation game in this weekend's tournament between Woodstock and Hamilton was won by Woodstock by a score of 4-1. At the end of regular season play Seaforth was pushing for a berth in the .M.H.A. Even though ' the team really tried hard. with oustanding play by sonic members of the team they Were throttled 11.2. Felt, 8 Wini:ham played in Seaforth. Goaltending im- proved with this game as Seaforth won by a close score of 5-4. Overtime was necessary tow Seaforth to pull ahead. In addition Scafot•th won the toss which meant Wingham returned for a Friday gaunt. Goalscorcrs for Seaforth were two for Greg Murray. Kevin Meladv, Kevin Williamson and winning goal scored lav ,Scott Driscoll. ,. In the third game Seaforth played tough hockcv and won w ith a score of 9-'. The team were down in the first period by five goals but began to forge hack in the second period. The parents and fans were proud of a good effort by all team members. This win gave Seaforth a shoe into the next round with Durham. ROUGH GAME 'Seaforth lost the toss and ended up playing in Seaforth for the first game Feb. 15. The game proved to be as rough as predicted in relation to past games played with Durham. .teff Campbell re- ceived a rough check on the boards and suffered a broken shoulder. Penalty minutes for Durham totalled 28 minutes and 14 minutes for Seaforth. Seaforth lost the game in overtime. The consensus of the team was that Seaforth should have won. Final score for Durham was 10 with 8 for Seaforth. Goalscorcrs were four goals for Greg Murray. three for Kevin Melady and one for Barry Campbell. • Feb. 16 Seaforth travelled 1.1 bus to Uurh:uu. 1 his game proved different as Seaforth boys set out to take over play. In the first minute Greg Murray scored two goals. 'By the end of the first period Seaforth was ahead 7 to 1. By the end of the game Seaforth had scored 13 goals to 5 tor Durham. Goal scorers were six goals for Greg Murray. one for terry Wright. one for Dave Campbell. two for Kevin, Milady. two. for David Me- Llwain and one for Dan Sloan. A good all round team effort. On Wed, Feb. 23 Seaforth returns to Durham and hopes for a decisive win. Jeff Campbell will be .out of the line up for the remainder of the season and sports fans hope his shoulder heals well with no problems. The action was very good and seemed balanced until Mit- chell started to walk away with the score, Joe Murray scored sand was helped by Steve ?apple. The final score was 7-3 for Mitchell. Feb. 18 saw Exeter meet Seaforth in the first game of the tournament. Michael Watt scored at 6:49 mark of the first period: The puck seemed to bounce all around John Moylan and especially off his shoulder with skill. Exeter then tied the score. Al the end of the first period the score was 1-1. Second peridd.saw a lot of action on Exeter's scoring lines and Scaforth soon real- ized this was going to be a long catch up ganie. Scaforth tried to press around the Exeter goalie but all to no avail. The final score was 6-1. Feb. 19 Seaforth met Mit- chell. There scented to be a special drive to this gamc. At the six minute mark Steve 'People scored unassisted. The boys were passing the puck around more and aware of their teammates. Thomas Wheatley was passing up and Steve P. had a break away but the score was 1-0 at the end of the first. Mitchell tied it up in the - second and Mitchell scored at the two minute mark of the third to see Seaforth come buck at the 58 -second mark. Mitchell came ahead at the nine second mark to see Steve Dapple speatd up the ice to score a tic at the eight second stark. They played 5 minutes overtime. The tension was intense. Steve P. came through again at the 34 second mark to win 4-3. S. Papple p'roved to be the most valuable player by getting an award from - the Pizza Train. The thrill continued oh Feb. 20 when Seaforth played Erma Logan. This was the couhtdown of the champion- ship in B division. Steve Papple was an eager little beaver and spun his way up the ice to see the count 2-1 at the end of the first. The break aways and center ice blistering shots saw the score at 4-2 al the end of the second. The Monkton goalie seem- ed to have a way to sit very cooly on the puck. • But he missed his chance when Pat Maloney slipped one into to score with Michael Watt assisting. The final score was S-2. Steve Papplc got the- 4—'mm valuable player award. The final game of the B consolation saw Scaforth nice! Woodgtock at 4:00 p.nt. The heads were spinning watching the goals go in. The Woodstock team had skating skills and high scoring skills. also, Scaforth never gave up Mu soon discouragement set in. The tension and eagerness to win seemed to slowly die but the team effort was consistent. Steve Papple broke through to score and the time flew too fast. The final score was 13.1. The playoffs started Feb. 21 with Seaforth • meeting Elma Logan at 7:30 p.m. Scaforth seemed very keen after a successful weekend of hockey. The players were aggressive and ready to set their nark. Atoms win streak spoiled by Brussels Brussels Atoms defeated Seaforth ended their regu- Seaforth 3.2 to spoil their lar season with 15 wins and 1 undefeated record on Wed. loss. Feb. 16th in Seaforth. G A P Both teams played well, but Seaforth was robbed on a lot of good scoring chances. Brussels started the scor- ing off in the first period by Steve Fritz followed aay a goal by Seaforth's Paul McLlwain to end the first period 1-1. Shawn Jacklin scored for Brussels in the second follow- ed by Ray Murray's goal for Seaforth to end the 2nd 2-2. Steve Fritz scored again for Brussels in the 3rd but Seaforth couldn't tie' it up. Final score 3-2 for Brussels. Monkton scored leaving the second period 3-1. The third period saw lots of action. Steve Papple scored three with Jason Beuttenmil- ler assisting in two.
