Leaving Toronto airport they landed at Melbourne Australia, went from there to New Zealand, leaving from Auckland, they were billeted at different homes for several days. one of the chaps said they travel- led in the area where the fires have wiped out part of Aus- tralia recently. Short Shots. George Bernard Shaw once said "People are always blaming circumstances for what they are. 1 dont believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are .the people who get up and look for the circumstancesthey want and if they can't find them they make them.' Sadly many are not capable of doingthat. Do you remember the three little monkeys that used to decorate ashtrays and other knick-knacks? Rands covered the yes of one, the ears of another and the mouth of the third one. They tried to tell us to "see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil." What a more pleasant world this would be if we all heeded their silent plea. Malicious gossip_ is a darksome evil that too many of us indulge in. We are quick to think we see wrongful in the conduct of others when we are unaware of the truth of the matter. We should not listen to malicious gossip that could destroy someone's reputa- tion. Unfortunately too many people delight in nasty, juicy gossip. Certainly if we hear it should not be spoken of to others. See,"hear and speak no evil. A bit of advice given long ago was - if you cannot speak well of a person keep silent. by Evelyn Kennedy Some enterprising manufacturer of electric tea kettles should bring out a kettle that whistles as soon as it boils. Such a one would surely save energy and cut down on electric bills. That is it would if there are many housewives who, like myself, plug in the kettle in preparation for a coffee break from our duties'then go trotting about our work while we wait for it to boil. The problem is, with nothing to remind us, we forget about it for much too long. Then we wonder later why our electric bill skyrockets at times. Oh for a whistling electric. kettle. If there is one on the market J have not heard about it. ARNOLD J. STINNISSEN UWE AND MORTGAGE INLURANCE PLANS r DEFERRED ANNUITIES INCOME TAX DEDUCTABLE FLEXIBLE NO LOAD-R.R.S.P. It is indeed doubtful that it is. Are innocent persons sometimes found guilty and the guilty ones go free? What is uppermost in the minds of some of those who do battle there? Every accused person is entitled to a defence lawyer to plead his case while a prosecuting attorney endeavours to prove guilt. That is the way itis. But, do either of them always seek to see justice done or is it too often, for some of them, that "the name of the game is to win" to enhance their own reputation and justice flies out of the window.
