Fund
seeks
$30,000
For the first time the
Ontario Heart Fund's recent-
ly organized Huron chapter
will be conducting a door-to-
door canvass in Seaforth.
As well as educating the
public about heart disease
and its prevention, the Ont-
ario Heart Foundation ad-
ministers the popular CPR
courses like Heartsave Sea -
forth, all over the province.
The Heart Foundation also
sponsors an inventive new
skippathon program in the
schools. '
Lloyd Rowat of Seaforth is
treasurer of the Huron chap-
ter and Pat Whelan of
Goderich is chairman of the
Heart Fund campaign, which
starts Feb, 13.
The 1983 Canadian Heart
Fund will succeed with the
full co-operation of the
people of Huron County Mr.
Whalen says. "For your own
heart, for the hearts of your
families and for the welfare
of our communities, 1 urge
you to put out the welcome
mat for the volunteer canvas-
ser and help us in achieving
our chapter goal of 530,000.'
Anyone not at home when
the canvasser calls may send
a donation to - Huron Chap-
ter Ontario Heart Foundat-
ion, c/o Lloyd Rowat Trea-

Trudy Don, coordinator for
the Ontario Association of
Interval and Transition
Houses will be the featured
speaker at a meeting spon-
sored by the Huron County
Family Crisis Centre. The
meeting will be held at the
Assessment building on
Napier Street in Goderich at
8:00 p.m. on Feb. 11.
Her topic will be Violence
in the Home. She will focus on
the problem/of wife assault.
No one knows the extent that
IT'S WORTH
THE DRIVE!
wife battering is a problem in
Huron County. It is expected
the problem is as severe as
elsewhere in Canada. Studies
show one in 10 women are
beaten by the men they live
with. Assaults tend to be part
of a regular pattern, increas-
ing in severity. Some end in
murder.
The Family Crisis Centre
hopes to open a home for
women in Huron County by
April. The committee was
originally formed by mem-
' bers from several Mennonite
Churches and has expanded
to include other interested
community members. Family
and Children's Services is
giving support and advice.

The centre will need the
help of many volunteers when
it opens later this year.
