Manor hears of Newfoundland
Church service was con-
ducted by Rev. J. Vanslyke on
Wednesday afternoon at Sea -
forth Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Del Dennis accompa-
nied at the piano for the
hymns. Following the service
Rev. Vanslyke visited with
the residents.
Mrs. Shirley Luther of the
Salvation Army visited on
Friday afternoon and con-
ducted service of worship and
song. Residents are always
pleased to hear Shirley sing
She also told residents about
her recent trip home to
Newfoundland and of the
countryside there. Following
the church service a birthday
party was given for Miss
Norma Streets a 'personal
friend of Mrs. Luther, with
ladies of the nursing home
also in attendance. Norma
MARSHALL: Elvey and Deb-
ra are' pleased to announce
the safe arrival of their
second son Nathan Elvey
born January 19, 1983 at St.
Joseph's Hospital, London.
Another grandson for Carl
and Jo Zvonkin of RRt St.
Marys and Dorothy Marshall
of Fullarton. Also another
great grandson for Mrs.
Helen Mathews of Burlington
and Mr. and Mrs. Abe
Zvonkin of Hamilton.

and bean bag throw. James

At alley bowling on Mon-
day afternoon Elmer Bakcsy
and Gladys Ruston were the
top bowlers for the afternoon.
Birthday greetings to Mr.
Arthur Nicholson who cele-
brated his 8&h birthday on
Saturday. Visiting with him
were his wife Cassie also on
Sunday his grandson David
Alexander visited also Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Nicholson of
Epmondville and Mrs. Beryl
Nicholson of Harpurhey.
"Art", as he is known to
many, received several cards.
All good wishes were extend-
ed to him- also by the
residents
Monday afternoon resi-
dents enjoyed the movie
"Helpmates" starring Laurel
and Hardy.
On Tuesday afternoon res-
idents played euchre with
Norma Streets having high
score for the ladies and Elmer
Bakcsy for the men. .

Mrs. Phyllis Lee of Clinton
visited Miss Norma Streets
on Saturday and took her for a
drive to Goderich and also
had dinner together.
Visiting with Alfie Sykes on
Wednesday was his wife Nina
of Heather Gardens.
Jas. F. Scott of town visited,
with Finlay Ross on Friday
afternoon.
George Addison visited
with friends at the nursing
home.
Visiting with Isobel Lambie
was Susan Huisser of Goder-
ich.
The Seaforth Women's In-
stitute will visit at Seaforth
Manor at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 for a
Valentine's musical program.
Tuckersmith UCW
raises healthy sum
Tuckersmith Unit 1 met
Jan. 11 when Mrs. Beatrice
Stoll opened Devotions. Mrs.
Hazel McCartney gave a
reading, "Another Year".
Mrs. Ann Broadfoot played
the piano. Mrs. Stoll took the
Meditation. Remember the
Lord will give guidance, she
said.

thanked Mrs. Stoll for her
'help on Devotions and °also
thanked the ladies who had
taken Devotions at the Janu-
ary general meeting. Nine
members answered the roll
call with a New Year verse.

Blyth play wins $5,000
A play originally written for the Blyth
Summer Festival has won the 55000 Chal-
mers Award as the best new Canadian play
for 1983.
Quiet in the Land, by Anne Chislett was
performed in Blyth in 1981 and repeated last
season. Ms. Chislett, one of the founders of
the Blyth Summer Festival, with her
husband. James Rov. the first artistic
director at Blyth, did everything frank
publicity to running the box office during the
local theatre's early days.
"I'd like to. thank (Blyth Festival artistic
director) Janet Amos for saying, 'Hey, how
about writing a play about the Amish?" Ms.
Chislett said in her acceptance speech. She
now lives in Victoria B.C. where James Roy is
artistic director of a theatre.
Huron - Perth UCW opposes
