You may have noticed
lately that a lot of people have
been asking trivia questions.
Even CKSL, a London radio
station, has been featuring
trivia questions every morn-
ing for listener9 to call in and
answer. This trivia craze may
have begun with the introduc-
tion of the new popular game,
Trivial Pursuit.
Trivial Pursuit is a Cana-
dian game introduced last
fall. The game can be played
by six individuals or six
teams. The game contains a
playing board, one die, 1,000
question -and -answer cards
(with six questions on each
card), two card boxes, six
player tokens and 36 scoring
wedges.
There are six categories
from . which questions are
asked. These include geo-
graphy, entertainment,
history, art and literature,
science and nature, and
sports and leisure. The cate-
gories are colour-coded, so if
a player lands on a pink
space, he has no choice but to
answer a question about
entertainment.
The difficulty of each ques-
tion 'varies. Naturally, males
tend to find the sports and
leisure category easier than
art and literature. Some
questions seem ridiculously
simple while others seem
inpossible. I find that the best
way is to take an educated
guess and hope that you are
right. (Eeny, meeny, miny,
mo works well too.)
An example of a geography
would be "What city was the
original Dixie?" A tough
question. For me, this would
probably be a guess answer
and I'd have a 99 per cent
chance of guessing wrong..
The correct answer is New
Orleans. If you guessed right.

McKillop raises held at
less than five percent
McKillop township
council has approved wage
increases of less than five per
cent to the four employees of
the township. Including the
clerk and road superinten-
dent, each employee received
an increase of $1,000.

tors for 1983 was. the Seaforth

C ncil has obtained an
insuran quotation from
Keith rray Insurance
Brokers I c. of Brodhagen.
Townlship insurance is pre-
sentlytheld by Seaforth Insur-
ance through Frank Cowan
Insurance. No decision was
made by council concerning
the quotation.
McKillop ratepayers re-
questing the use of a grader
for grading laneways and
backfilling tile drains will now
pay $32 per hour which
includes the grader and oper-
ator. A minimum charge of
516 will be levied. The 1982
rate was $30 per hour and a
minimum rate of $15.
A bylaw was approved to
revise the "C" schedule of
the building permit. Town-
ship residents will now pay
525 for a permit plus 54 per
$1,000. In the past the initial
charge was $25 plus 52 per
51,000. The reason for the
increase was the rising cost of
providing a building inspect-
or.
Bruno Braecker and Ed-
ward McClure attended the

Mr. Braecker's cattle which

caused by running into a

tacked by a dog or other
animal and were trying to

of NewGuinea graphy question asks what
the capital of Norway is. Do
you have two right. Which
ones? You guess. Brazil,
Ecuador and Columbia are all
crossed by the equator.
And finally, this question
which is easy if you think it
through, "What productpuilt
Hershey, Pennsylvania?"
The word Hershey is the clue.
Why, chocolate is the answer
of course. But, maybe geo-
graphy isn't your favourite
subject. That's okay, there's
lots more to choose from.
Entertainment might be an
easier category, especially for
parents and people who
remember old movies. For
example " What actor came to
dinner in "Guess Who's
Coming To Dinner?" This
might take a bit of thinking
but after a bit of thought you
might come up with
Sidney Poitier, which is the
right answer.
A more modern entertain-
ment question is the old
"Who shot J.R.?" question.'
Surely you know by now that
it was Kristin Shepard. What
1920's cowboy star rode Tony
the Wonder Horse? It was
Tom Mix. And finally,' what
„was the Oscar -winning theme
song of Breakfast at Tif-
fany's? The answer, which as
a surprise to me, is Moon
River.
History is not my favourite
school subject so the history
question in Trivial Pursuit are
sure to teach me things.
Things such as Abraham
Lincoln was assassinated on
Good Friday and Margaret
Trudeau described Fidel
Castro as the sexiest man
I've ever met." Do you know
who was the wife of Prince
Albert _of Saxe-Coburg-
Gotha? It was Queen Victoria.
. The art and literature
questions are a little easier.
For instance, how many
fiddlers did Old King Cole
have? Any kindergarten child
could tell you that he had
three but teenagers and
adults might have more
trouble . remembering.

ature question, "What was

Torrents of Spring.
Science and Nature ques-
tions vary considerably , in
levels of difficulty., Did you
know that IBM's motto is
Think? Or did you know that
Mercury is the planet nearest
to the sun? You probably
knew that hydrogen is the
most abundant element in the
sun but you may not know
that water is the best thirst -
quencher. There's Tots to
learn in this game.
As 1 mentioned before,
guys do whompgirls in sports
trivia. Questions such as
"How many consecutive
misses eliminate a high
jumper?" and "What do the
five Olympic rings repre-
sent?" are a breeze for most
guys but difficult for girls to
answer. The answers, by the
way, are three misses and
the five continents.
Did you know that it takes
10 events to make up the
decathlon or than on a 455 -
yard golf hole the par is four?
And finally. on sports trivia,
"What name did football's
New York Titans adopt in
1963?" The answer is the
Jets.
As you can see there are a
lot of questions to be asked
and 1 have only included 30
out of 6,000, so you can
imagine how hard it is to
memorize the answers! Triv-
ial Pursuit is a good game:
both educational and fun and
as long as you don't take it too
seriously, great to play with
friends. We've had our game
of Trivial Pursuit for over a
'month and no one has
committed suicide yet!
