Bruins gain with good, old fashioned hard
BY DAVE BROOME
Joe Dick will probably sug-
gest that his Bruins are now
ust beginning to peak. To a
point that may be true, but
the Bears have found that
most of their success of recent
weeks comes as a reward for
good old-fashioned hard
work.
Theyroduced their best
effort oftheseason Sunday
evening and the result was a
4-3 squeaker over the Ran-
gers.
The win was their fourth
in five outings and enabled
the club to clinch third spot
overall.
This late string of success.
comes at the most important
time of the year because the
I.H.L. playoffs are just a
couple of weeks away.
It is fashionable these days
to put some sort of streak
together be it positive or
negative. Maybe the Bears
are just keeping pace with the
trend.
The play was fairly even
throughout the match but it
was Bruin goalie Jerry Martin
who had to face the tougher
shots.
He thwarted a half dozen
point blank drives to keep his
team alive and they respond-
ed by scoring four straight
second half goals to win.
Brian Cooper continued his
hot scoring pace by netting
the hat trick.
Dale Kennedy added the
other goal for the winning
side. He may finally get his
touch back and that is good
news for the Bruins.
Kennedy virtually killed off
a two man advantage power
play by himself with some
nifty solo work in the corners.
In fact, the Rangers managed
just one harmless shot at
Martin.

PENGUINS 7 CANADIANS 5
The Penguins overcame a
pedestrian effort to edge the
Canadians 7-5 during the
night's early game.
While other teams have
noisily stolen the thunder the
Pens have quietly gone about
fashioning a splendid 11-3
mark so far this term.
ith the most important
pay of the I.H.L. season
coming up, the Pens have
peace of mind knowing they
.have nothing to defend.
Without any pressure this
club should have a ripping
good time in the playoffs.
