Although Christmas is past this is still„,
appropriate.
The Little Drummer Boy .
:When the Christ Child was born,
many -beautiful gifts were brought to the
tltunger,
Gifts of great beauty and splendor.
But one small boy who was very poor had
,nothing to offer the Lord, and he was very
sad.
Then he thought, "1 can play my drum for
Him" and so he did.

showing that at Christmas the gift of love is
the best gift of all.
This year, for the first time it was decided
to journey from Toronto to Ottawa by bus
instead of by plane or train as has been the
usual custom. The waiting at the Toronto Bus
Terminal for the Express bus to Ottawa was
antics ated with a bit of anxiety having heard
some gruesome tales of lone women being
beaten up and robbed in washrooms there.
That was unlikely in mid-afternoon, but,
being a bit of a coward, the possibility of 'that
happening was avoided by refrainii g from
using such a facility. After fidgeting in a long,
line waiting to purchase tickets the bus was
boarded and it left immediately arriving in
Ottawa almost an hour ahead of schedule.
After the down -at -the -heel mussy appear -
mice of the Toronto bus terminal the one in
Ottawa was a pleasant surprge. Clean, and
well-equipped, the large returant, where
one was given courteous attention, was a
relaxing place to enjoy a good cup of cbffee
and a sandwich, or a meal, after the long bus
trip, while waiting to be picked up after my
•
unexpected early arrival.
This year has 'indeed been a Merry
Christmas for me, surrounded by members of
my family, son, grandsons, granddaughters,
of various ages, from 10 to early 20s,' along
with' their friends and an almost -three-year-
old great-granddaughter. A Christmas Day
call from the missing family members in
Winnipeg made the day a very happy one. it
has remained, since that day, a very pleasant
holiday season. Far from the normal half
dozen in the home, there has been the coming
and going Each day of that many more to keep
things lively. It cannot be described as calm
and peaceful at times but the days are filled
with good fun and laughter with enough
restful quiet moments to keep great -grandma
from nervous exhaustion.
di. a••«••
In an easy'Chair, gazing at the lovely Targe
Christmas tree, boughs alight with twinkling
light and shimmering icicles, piled lavishly
beneath with gifts, 1 could but think how
lucky some families are and how bleak this
Christmas, devoid of such things, must be for
so many Canadian families. Do the, lucky ones
really appreciate how fortunate they are?
Would it not be great if some benevolent
authority would declare it illegal for bills to
be sent in December and January. Tax bills,
utility bills, fuel bills, telephone bills,
insurance payments, repair bills, credit card
bills, mortgage payments etc. etc. all seem to
come flooding in in what is supposed to be the
happy holiday season. Ho, hum! such is
life!!.
