PLAYOFFS In my opinion, the Cente- naires (who are not overrid- den with talent) barring injur- ies and if they get a solid effort from each team mem- ber should make the playoffs. it won't be easy, but I think they are capable of finishing as high as third in the standings. Against Tavistock the Cen- tenairesshowed a lot of hustle as they jumped into a quick 3-0 lead on goals by Mike Kelly, Pete Van Drunen and Jamie McClinchey. The Braves . however came back with two goals before the first period ended to cut the Centenaires lead to 3-2 going into the second frame. Had, it not been for the brilliant efforts of McClure the Irish could have quite easily pulled away. Shots on goal throughout the entire game were 38-18 in favor of Lucan. Both teams were each assessed nine minor penal- ties. CENTENAIRES6 THEDFORD6 . The Seaforth Centenaires in Mark • McLlwain got his B second shorthanded goal of the game from defenceman Rob Core to make the score 6-5. The Centenaires kept pressing teget the equalizer and finally with the Trojans being penalized for a tripping infraction and the Centel naires on the power play John Dale flashed the red Tight on after taking passes from Dave and Mark McLlwain. The goal . came at 18:36 and capped the strongest come- back effort so far this season. Injuries "took its toll in the game as defenceman captain Dave Erb injured his back in the pre game warmup and missed the entire game. Defenceman Peter Bennett suffered an ankle injury ;as did forward Mike Kelly and ran their unbeaten streak to four games as they held off a strop third period rally by the Tedford Browns to sal- vage a 6-6 ,ie. Thedford started as though they were going to blow the Centenaires right out of the rink by scoring two goals in the first minute and thirteen seconds of the game. The Browns appeared to have control of the first half of the period with Centenaire goalie Keith McClure coming up with several point blank saves. The locals seemed to take over in the last half as they roared back with three straight goals in a four minute span to take a 3-2 lead. Jim Campbell scored the first goal while Paul Smale and John Hicknef added back to back power play goals. Thedford fought back to tie the score with just 30 seconds remain- ing in the period on a power play effort. In the second period there was no scoring until past the midway point as both ,goaltenders especially McClure came up with sev- eral saves. Dave Erb shot the Cente- naires into a 4-3 lead by deflecting a Ken Higgins blueline drive pant Brown's goalie Brad Milner.
