Perth leaders resolve
The annual ritual of
making New Year's Resolu-
tions is here.
Common resolutions given
are to quit smoking, diet and
increase the letters sent to
friends and relatives. Many
are all but foreotten by
January 31, but at least the
thought was there on New
Years Eve.
The people who head var-
ous county wide bodies have
been asked for their New
Year's resolutions or what
they would like to see in 1983.
The general consensus is
concern for the economy and
how this will effect the
coming year,
Ron Christie: Mr. Christie
is the president of the Perth
County Federation of Agri-
culture and resides at RR2
Staffa. "We're just nicely
into a depression", com--

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Mil -
cognition of this fact is
something he would like to
see in the coming year. "We
might as well face realities,"
said Mr. Christie noting that
the Gross National Product
(GNP) is in its second con-
secutive year of negative
gain. He also adds that as a
small businessman it is
"frustrating" to see the pub-
lic civil service continually
receive salary increases. "It
defies the basic laws of
economics", commented the
Perth federation presidents.
John Lindner: Mr. Lind-
ner, reeve of North Easthope
Township, is the Perth
County Warden for 1983. The
Warden has concern for any-
one who is unemployed and
states. "I hope in 1983 the
problem is someho* re-
solved". He noted that the
loss of jobs in Perth County
has resulted in a $5 million
as in Staffa
loss in income. "I hope
economic conditions improve
in 1983", added the warden.
Ronald Murray: Mr. Mur-
ray is the chairman of the
Huron -Perth Separate School
Board and resides al RR1
Dublin. His main goal for the
coming year is "to provide at
least the same standard of
education"...without in-
creasing monetary costs or at
least as little as possible." He
doesn't see any capital pro-
jects in the works for the next
year'unless provincial grants
are forthcoming. "We'll try
to update education services
without cost increases."
