Ann .Howlett, the new manager of the
Seaforth branch of the Canadian Imperial
Bank of Commerce, took over her new
position this wee•.. Ms. Howlett has been
working with the CIBC since she began as
a stenographer at the age of 18.
A collection of non=perishable goods was
undertaken again this year by. Dave Staf-
fen of Seaforth. Although response at the
parade was less than in 1988. response at
the - ' 'vexes .vas greater, and this year

• the Hlt>ron County Christmas Bureau.
Connie 'McClure, a Seaforth native and a
Grade 13 student at SDHS, is this year's
recipient of the Murray Cardiff Citizenship
troph' awarded to the 4-H member in
Huron County who beat exemplifies the
goals and aims of the organization. '
Norman and Betty MacLean of Egmond-
ville will be holding a Christmas tea at the 1
Log House. All donations received will go
towards welcoming friend and fellow
parishioner at the Egmondville United
Church, Glen McLachlan, home from the
hospital for Christmas.

Most rural customers of the Seaforth
Post Office will see their mail delivered by
a new contractor, effective January 1. 1990.
Don Roberts of Seaforth has been award-
ed the tender for all five of the rural
routes currently served by the Post Office.
The routes have previously been handled
by three separate contractors.
The Seaforth Community Hospital has
been awarded a three-year accreditation
from the Canadian Council of Health
Facilities.
Seaforth Centenaires recorded their first
regular season home -ice win for the year
- and even longer, some say in a mighty
effort that ended in a sound 12-8 decision
over. Wellesley.
Champion Road Machinery employees
are back at work after accepting what
management called its last contract offer.
The employees had been locked out for 22
days before voting 336 to 147 to accept the
three-year collective agreement.

town. Dr. Alexander Plaines should be

Two local foster families were honoured
by the Huron,County Family and
- Children's Servicefor long-time commit-
ment to the foster parenting program. Goa
don and Ada Blanchard of Seaforth,
formerly of Winthrop, have been taking in
foster children for 30 years, while Richard
and Roberta Kloss have been involved for
15 years.
The Seaforth Centenaires found
themselves on the wrong end of a four -
point spread twice this weekend, suffering
an 8-4 loss against the Exeter Hawks on
Friday night and bowing to the Tavistock
Braves 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.
NOVEMBER 1, 1989
Fire destroyed a garage on the proper-
ty of Jessie $ennewies in the early morn-
ing hums of Saturday, October 29. Firemen
were ratted to the scene at 4 a.m. but the
building and a car inside it could not be
saved. Two cars parked by the garage
were also damaged, and cost was
estimated at $15,000 total.
Five area people have been charged with
trafficking in drugs, and another six peo-
ple with possession of drugs following a
four month long police undercover opera-
tion in Huron County. Drugs with a street
value of approximately $6,500 were seized
when homes in Goderich, Clinton, Hensel)
and Huron Park were searched.
Dorothy Fryer is set to open the doors of
her new shop, DEM Crafts, on the corner
of Mill and Bayfield St. in Egmondville.
The Haunted House held in Hensall this
weekend raised aver $500. The proceeds
Will go towards the purrhase of a new
computer in the Henson library.
NOVEMBER 8, 1989
Brussels has been chosen as the northern
.site of one of two new county homes for
the aged, ending several weeks of lobbying
by politicians and local groups. Huron
County council voted 19-14 to build the 82
bed facility on a site in Morris Township.

A car fire broke out on the Staffa Road,
completely destroying a car belonging to
Doug Poulton of Egmondville. Mrs. Poulton
was driving the car when it began to
smoke under the hood. Seaforth firefighters
extinguished the blaze, but the car was a
write-off.
Three persons were injured in a head-on
collision on. Highway 8 east of Seaforth.
The crash occurred when an eastbound
vehicle passing another struck an oncom-
ing car three kilometres east of
Tuckersmith Twp. Road 15, near Arts

At a public meeting in Vanastra,
Tuckersmith Council unveiled the town nn-
provement projects slated for 1990.93 ander
the auspices of the PRIDE program Work
will include repairs to the pool at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre, street and
sewer work and streetlight installation in
the village.
Locked out Champion Road Machinery
workers in Goderich attempted to block the
loading and shipping of graders in the
company yard. One employee was knock-
ed to the ground by a grader tire and was
taken to hospital as the situation grew
volatile.
The Third Annual Midwestern Show and
Sale held in Seaforth this weekend was, as
always, a raving success. Organizers
report a total of $2,336 paid admissions
despite stormy weather that kept some in-
terested parties at bay.
Sculptor and fdauler SDHS student John
Holland was in town to dedicate a
sculpture to the school in memory of friend
and former classmate Susan Leonhardt.
Susan's parents, Betty and Lester
Leonhardt. . were on hand for the
presentation.

The entranceway to the new Seaforth
Community Hospital addition was packed
to capacity when .citizens, ;hospita1.staff
and officials, and local politicians gathered
for the official ribbon cutting ceremony. A
highlight of the. event was the announce-
ment by MPP Jack Riddell on behalf of
Health Minister Elinor Caplan that the
hospital would receive a grant of nearly
