THE BEST CHRISTMAS
GIFT EVER
The snowflakes floated softly to frost -
covered ground as Alain trudged home
from school. Alain was very unhappy for
his mother was temporarily confined to a
wheelchair because she was injured in a
serious .skiing accident. As he opened the
door, cold blasts of North wind entered the
room.
Even though it was three days ,before
Christmas there was not much happiness
in the Leaver .household. They only had a
.skiz{ipY Christmas tree ,because Alain's
Riother could go out and work in ,her
,predicament. Christmas was ;supposed to
be a :happy time but Alain had, no reason
to be happy.
That night Alain .set to work on his
Christmas',list for Santa Claus. There .were
Many ,pieces of crumpled up paper ,on
Alain's bedroom floor. He finally decided
.on a 1st ,that read like this "All 1 want for

Christmas is mommy to walk again and he
happy." The next day, Alain walked to th
post office and dropped off his letter
On Christmas morn Alain woke up with
a smile. There stood his mother cooking
porridge over their pot-bellied stove, She
looked healthier and happier than ever
before.
As Alain looked over to where the skin
py tree used to be, there stood a large
evergreen tree that reached the ceiling
Under the tree were a set of 12 Lin soldier:-
for
oldieryfor Alain. For. his mother there was e
beautiful .wooden jewelry box.
The next day Alain skipped home iron,
school. Alain was very thankful because
his mother had just recovered from e
serious skiing accident When Alain open -
.ed the door to his house, a scene of
warmth and happiness carne to his eyes
