Hilda Payne was vitalist for the 'hymns. (Mary Roobal's =devotional Theme was "Look at Christmas". It ',dealtwith remem- brance of the One, for whom Christmas 'was 'established. This was followed by Mary's prayer. Offering was .given and dedicated by Elva. Fifteen -ladies-answered The roll call, .and reported making 61 calls on .shut-ins. Olga read a poem "Christ and .the Christ Child" and Elva read one also, "One 'wish for Christmas. Rene Caldwell had a humorous poem. Elva showed a beautiful illustrated Christmas film, "The Little Boy who stayed behind". Eileen Rannie and Evelyn Flynn, served lunch. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Rev. Mark Gaskin lit the second candle of Advent at Carmel Presbyterian Church, This Christmas i want a store where I can buy .unique, fabulous :gifts .. , and explained the ramming 'of -the candles and'Whyeweeihould not "Skip":the -deep in- volvement ef'the "season'of Advent. He said we should thtlrry 'right -into=the'-h`istle-and bustle Sof :Christmas, even =though -it is the ultimate. `'The =importance of rhe Apostle Jolmawas stressed as be is often not made too empartant. The call to sworship, followed by the Sanctus, opened the service. The church has been -tastefully decorated in the Christmas -finery but not too ornately, truly beautiful. Rev. 'Mark thanked the ladies fittingly. The sermon "Behind the scenes — below the ground" was thought provoking. No matter Show insignificant we may thlnk we are, each and every one is important in God's plan. Rev. Mark and his family is to be part of the Christmas service program at the :Queensway Nursing Home. (This will be past when the paper is printed ) . The P.C.W, will have bad their annual potluck dinner and packed "Goodies" for The several shut-ins on Monday Dec. 11. The -congregation is very happy to have two new natural gas furnaces, the work having been done this past week. On Sun- day December 17 9:45 a.m. there will be communion -service at the Carmel Church. On December 24 9:45 a -m. there -will be the Christmas service and at 7::40 p.m. there 'will be a Christmas Eve service. All are welcome. Two beautiful floral -gifts in the sane- tuary -were donated by the family of the date Rosa Harris who passed away Sunday. Though she was a member of The United Church, she will be remembered as a diligent and faithful worker for the whole community. Sympathy is extended to her family. FRIEWDSHip CIRCLE Christmas reminiscing opened the meeting of the Friendship Circle on Mon- day afternoon. Pat Cook was chairperson. Christmas carols were sung accom- panied by Deanna Brock on the piano. Kay Mock had the devotion with the title being "Flow Far to Your Bethlehem", Kay Elder read a very interesting reading. A film was shown, the title being "Martin the Cobbler". The World Day of Prayer will be held at the Presbyterian Church in March. Pat Cook read a poem "Touched Hands" and closed with prayer. • Fourteen ladies were present. Hostesses were Mona Alderdice and Mary Brintnell. SHUFFLEBOARD Highest shuffle scores on December 5 were: Pearl McKnight 434; Emma Camp- bell 293; John Pepper 268, and Dave Wood- ward 251. The tables were all set with green cloth and 'Christmas :table centers and candles for the ,potluck ,supper. Marie McGavin played a medley of Christmas carols on the piano prior to the meeting. Walton II Unit was in charge of devo- tions. A warm 'welcome was given to all the ladies present by Marilyn McDonald and then led in a sing -song. Marilyn read a -poem.-Barb': and Sarah Ramble favored the group with a duet accompanied by their :mother at the piano. Assisting Marilyn in a dialogue on the Christmas story interspersed with Christmas hymns were: Helen Williamson, Margaret Craig, Kathleen Williamson, Maxine Houston and Pearl McCallum. This was concluded with an -impressive lighting of candles by -each of the ladies. The business was conducted by Olene Dennis opening with prayer. Marie Coutts made a presentation of a U.C.W. pin and a Heritage Book for Annie Reid to Edith Wey who will deliver it to Annie who is back in Stratford Hospital. Olene Denrus presented the lighting of candles for the :new executive to have new light to be ever in your heart to lead the U.C.W. and thanked all for their help in the past two years. Dorothy Sholdice took the :chair as the new president, accepted her new office and asked for everyone's help in the year ahead. Dorothy then ask- ed Olene to come forward to present her with a life membership in the United Staff. Church Women and the pin was pinned on by Marie McGavin. Although taken by sur- prise, Olene made a fitting reply. A card of wedding wishes was signed for Charles Swan, a former minister at Duff's who was married on November 25. The next general meeting will be held in the New Year, Janaury 8. The Benediction closed a lovely Christmas meeting. CHURCH "NEWS Rev. Bonnie Cole-Arnal officiated at the service Sunday morning at Duff's for the lighting of Advent Candles. Organist was Glenda Carter. Greeters were `Mary Hum- phries and Helen Williamson. December ushers: Keith Wilbee, Emerson Mitchel and Laverne McClure. Coming events: Sunday, December 24, regular morning services and a • 7:30 p.m. service at Walton.
