THE HURON EXPOSITOR, DECEMBER 6, 1989 -- 3A
Spectators, vendors brave
weather for show and sale
The Third Annual Midwestern Show
and Sale held in Seaforth on Sunday was
as always, a raving success. Organizers
report a total of $2,336 paid admissions,
this despite the stormy weather that kept
some interested parties away.
"We had a lot of phone calls from peo-
ple who wanted to come, but just couldn't
get through," said Joyce Ribey, adding
that a large number of people from the
Sarnia area were forced to turn back at
Forrest.
"We had a few vendors kept away
because of the weather, but on the whole
most people persevered. The Van Eg-
mond Foundation and the Seaforth
Agricultural Society (sponsors of the
event) would just like to commmend the
visitors and the exhibitors for coming
through the weather and making the
show the success it was. We'd also like
to commend the Egmondville United
Church women for the excellent job they
did with serving lunch. They were
everywhere."
As with most large undertakings,
organizers admit there were a few pro-
blems, Most however, like the problem of
heat vs. condensation in the agricultural
display barn, are already being remedied
for next year.
"We're still having growing pains, but
we'll have it fixed and all ready to go for
next year," said Mrs. Ribey.
In total the show and sale drew 164 ex-
hibitors of crafts, farm toys, dolls and
miniatures, quilts and antiques. Special
awards went to: D.E. Miniatures of
Woodstock, Most Attractive Display Doll
and Miniature Show; Don and Marian
Kernighan of Komoka, Most Outstanding
Display Doll and Miniature Show; Darryl
Haney of RR 3 Seaforth, Best First Time
Display Farm Toy Show; Lorne Weston
of Rockwood, Best Selling Farm Toy
Show; and Taylor Toys of Hensall, Best
Overall Display Farm Toy Show.
"It went over really well, despite the
weather. We're thrilled with the amount
of people that came through.
