phasing a new machine at an approx-
imate cost of $172 000. The exact cost of a
new compacter wall not be known until the
tenders come in, and at that time the
Board will decide whether to repair or pur-
chase. In either case, the Board will be
responsible for 40% of the cost, with the
remaining 60% to be covered by grants.
ARENA FLAG OKAYED
Tuckersmith Council conceded to pur-
chasing a Township flag for the Seaforth
and District Arena at a cost of $150. Coun-
cillor Larry McGrath had told Council at
the last meeting that the Arena Board was
waiting until all of the councils came to an
agreement before proceeding on the issue.
Tuckersmith Council waited until last Tues-
day's meeting to discuss the flag question,
as not all members were present at the
previous meeting.
BROOMBALL TOURNAMENT
A delegation appeared before
Tuckersmith Council on Tuesday to brief
members on the upcoming 1990 Ontario
Broomball Championships and to request
financial support for the venture.
Janet Buchanan and Bob Skeoch
reported on the progress of plans for the
tournament, slated for March 16-18 at the
Clinton and Seaforth arenas. They estimate
that over 3000 spectators and 800 players
will descend on the region during that
weekend, when the Central -West broomball
associations will host no less than 28
teams,
The Seaforth arena will serve as the
home base for the tournament, hosting the
opening night ceremonies and the Cham-
pionship finals on the Sunday night. All
proceeds from the tournament will go
towards the development of the Junior
broamball program within the Central -West
region.
The Broomball Association is seeking
financial contributions to cover the cost of
arena rental and equipment. The
Townships are being approached for either,
straight donations of $150, or the purchase
of an advertisement in the official tourna-
ment schedule and information booklet.
The cost of an advertisement will be $35
for a quarter page, $60 for a half page, :1.10
for a three-quarter page ad and $100 for a
full page ad.
Ms. Buchanan and Mr. Skeoch requested
that any financial commitment be confirm-
ed by Council by January 15, 1990 in order
that the Broomball Association can begin
finalizing operating costs.
GRADER: STILL GOING
Superintendent of Roads Doug Poulton
reported that the Township's grader, which
is in need of repairs, is in operation and
outfitted for snow removal. The repairs
have not yet been done, but Mr. Poulton
noted that the machine was much needed
during the past weeks when an
unseasonable amount of snow fell on the
area.
