The following is part of the notice in an editorial taken from the Legion Magazine. If anyone in our area falls under this category either get in touch with Comrade Cleave or write Veterans Affairs Canada. Effective June 29, 1989, they are entitled to reinstatement of survivor benefits that ceased when they remarried. Please note that this is reinstatement to June 29, 1989. It is not retroactive to the date that the survivor benefit ceased. Fur- ther, the onus is on the widow(er) to app- ly. You can't count on reinstatement unless you come forward. The main, beneficiaries should be widows(ers) of those who received disabili- ty pension under the Pension Act. Veterans Affairs Canada expects to pay about $28 million annually to 4,500 who have remar- ried over the years. A number will have been remarried for many years, e.g. widows of some WW I Veterans. Every remarried widower) or a disabili- ty pensioner who feels she(he) is affected should apply to a Legion Branch or the nearest VAC district office. It's important to bring along as much as possible of the following: the full name of the deceased pensioner; the date and place of death; the pensioner's service number and/or seven digit disability pension number; the date and place of marriage. VAC will also need some basic information about the remar- ried widow(er) such as full name, name before marriage, address and phone number. The Legion's entry in the Fair Queen Contest held in conjunction with the Seaforth Fall Fair was Tammy Nash. Miss Nash looked quite stunning in her gown and made one of the better speeches but did not make the final three. We would like to thank Tammy for being the entry and look forward to seeing her in the parade on Friday. Trying to pick a winner from all those talented and beautiful girls must have been a real job. The Legion will have a booth at the fair on Thursday evening and Friday afternoon when the Fair Queen contest will be shown on T.V. along with other tapes that might prove of some interest to those in atten- dance. There will also be a free draw for prizes. The Ladies Auxiliary is having an after noon tea on Wednesday, September 20 (this afternoon) between the hours of 2 pm and 4 pm to help celebrate Legion week and the 60th Anniversary. Everyone welcome Also coming up in only four weeks is a musical show reminseent of the War -time England, This show is the last of a tour b3 these actors and actresses and has a top rating billing.
