Jury, and they were transported
accordingly.
"It went well," commented Seaforth
Police Chief Hal Claus.
"Of course in a real emergency there'd
be a lot more panic making our job more
difficult. All the parents would be wan-
ting to get down to the community cen-
tres to see if their kid was injured. But
it worked well today. It let all the
emergency facets work together,
Town hall
something that hasn't been done before.
It was a real learning experience."
Ambulance attendant Gary Betties
noted that during the mock disaster, ac-
tion was slower because of a lack of
vehicles to transport the injured. During
a real disaster outside ambulances would
be called in to assist, and vehicles such
as a school bus might be commandeered
to help treat the injured.
During the disaster the Town Hall
Council Chambers was set up as an infor-
mation centre.
from page 2A
the passing people but they can't see the
street for the big blocks holding the
trees, I'm sorry. At a large cost, they put
wood around them. Now, No.1 coordinator
spent dollars and dollars putting the
wooden fire hall door back in the town
hall but one of the clerks can not see out-
side so for more dollars they put windows
in. Then, No.2 coordinator puts three flag
poles in front of the windows, but don't
fret we have No.3 coordinator. With a
few phases to do probably she will put
windows in the flag poles.
Now at a large cost, a statue of D.D.
Wilson, What the hell did he do for the
town? You want somebody of interest,
put of A.Y. McLean - A. Stewart - Sills -
Daly-Cardno-Aberhart-Beattie and
so on. Better still how about the three
foreigners who came to town, started
stores, and delivered their famous goods
around the country - like Sam Shinen and
Chris Cheros, Thomas Phillips, All we
ever hear about is grants, and grants.
Who does Town hall think pays for this?
Prove to me that coordinators have plac-
ed 23 permanent jobs in Seaforth or
started 10 businesses that are still here.
Actually the last month we lost a clothing
store and an appliance store, cut back on
a restaurant who did away with their din-
ing room, lost two heritage buildings for
a grocery store parking lot, and lost one
hair dressing salon.
Quote out of last week's paper -
"Although the biggest effect on main
street program has had in Seaforth to
this point is in getting strategies in place,
those. involved say it has breathed new
life into the town by giving it focus and a
plan of attack. In addition to establishing
an Economic Development committee,
the program has accomplished the draf-
ting of the Streetscape Master plan which
will be used as a guide for the future
renovation and revitalization of main
street. Streetscape is a long term plan to
beautify the town." First class journalism
and more money to spend and more coor-
dinators to come.
What is the input in dollars and cents
for all the money spent and can the
stores hold out for a long term plan?
How do the taxpayers and business
men feel that we in Seaforth are going to
be led up the golden stairs by coor-
dinators and outsiders who do not live
here and have businesses here?
Over a period of nine years you, like
taxpayers, will have paid three coor-
dinators by salary, by paid field trips,
paid seminars, etc., approximately
$300,000.
Just think what Seaforth could do
themselves with their own money: I
would like to hear the merchants tell me
that their tills are ringing up dollars for
the dollars they have spent.
Another $32,000 dollars washed away
through the big hole is the Railway
bridge and where the water is going to,
the engineer on the job was wondering.
But that's another story.
There will be a rebuttle on this
message with statistics, big write ups etc.
like this one in last weeks Expositor: " A
full time position as Commercial Heritage
and Economic Development Coordinator
was taken up recently by Catherine Vida.
As coordinator her aim will be to imple-
ment an economic development strategy
formulated during phase one and to en-
courage the creation of downtown
attractions."
How many times do we have to listen
to these same write ups?
Actually I am a nice fella and a fair
citizen because I did get the first Citizen
of the Year award. But then, maybe that
was another Town Hall blunder.

An all -industry Ontario Beef Industry
Council is being established by the On-
tario Cattlemen's Association (OCA) and
the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and
Food.
The 17 -member Council will bring sec-
tors of the beef industry together on a
regular basis to research and provide ad-
vice to the Minister on .production, pro-.
ceasing, retailing and promotion of beef.
By establishing the Council, the OCA
is fulfilling a recommendation of the 1988
Beef Marketing Task Force, said OCA
President, Jim Magee. The Council will
serve to formalize industry -wide meetings
on a quarterly basis."
The OCA has ,met individually with all
these groups in the past, but the Council,
with all its representatives, will play an
important role in strengthening the in-
dustry as a whole in the future, he said,
Agriculture and Food Minister, David
Ramsay, commended the beef industry
for the establishinent of the Council.
"We have to recognize that our beef in-
dustry faces increasing competition from
other jurisdictions. Through the Council,
ted
all participants in the industry, from the
farm to tbe retail counter can work
together for the long-term viability of, the
beef industry in Ontario," Ramsay said.
The OCA Will name Council represen-
tatives from the feedlot, Scow -calf,
custom -feeding, veal, Northern Cattle
Sales Network, and livestock dealer sec-
tors of the industry.
Associations representing provincially
and federally inspected slaughter and
processing plants, beef and veal
purveyors, livestock auction markets,
livestock truckers, meat retailers, hotel
restaurant and institutional trade and
consumers will each be asked to name a
representative to serve on the Council.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food
will name the three remaining members
to represent agricultural marketing, pro-
duction and safety net programs which it
administers.
A chairman and representatives to the
Council will be named in the near future.
The first meeting of the Council is plann-
ed for this fall.
