HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron Expositor, 1989-09-20, Page 9OBITUARIES KENNETH MCNAUGHT Kenneth Ferguson McNaught died Fri- day, September 15, 1989 at the Stratford General Hospital. He was 64. Born at Islay, Alberta, he was a sop of the late Harry McNaughton and the former Marion Ferguson. He had lived in Stafford most of his life. He was educated in Stratford and at the University of Toronto. During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, the former Marion McGavin; a brother Lorne and wife Peg of Brampton; a sister Ariel and husband Bob Withrow of Stratford; nine nieces and nephews; and 14 grandnieces and grandnephews. There was no funeral home visitation, but a funeral service was held on Saturday at Avondale Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. John Moses officiated, As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made the to CT Scanner Fund of the Stratford General Hospital through the W.G Young Funeral Home in Stratford. DALTON WILLIAM HIEGEL Dalton William Riegel of Mitchell died Saturday, September 16, 1989 at his home. He was 68. Born in Logan Township on November 5, 1920, he was a son of the late Henry E. Riegel and the former Emma Eisler. On December 8, 1942 he was married to the former Alice May Hudson who predeceas- ed him on October 2, 1970. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Logan Township until moving to Mitchell in 1968. Mr. Riegel was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brodhagen and had served on the Church Council. He is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann and her husband Gordon Pringle of Stratford; two grandchildren, Shawn and David Pringle; two brothers, Wildfred and his wife Mary of Stratford and Henry and his wife Alice of Mitchell; and four sisters, Mrs. Gladys Harris of the Ritz Lutheran Villa, Mitchell, Mrs. Norman (Della) Ahrens and Mrs. Gordon (Mildred) Ham- mond, both of Mitchell, and Mrs. Jean Crossan of London. Mr. Riegel was predeceased by two sisters, Lily Josling and Bertha Eilliott. Friends were received at the Lockhart Funeral Home in Mitchell and a funeral service was held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brodhagen, with the Reverend Bob Book officiating. Pallbearers were Donald and Rodger Riegel, Roy Harris, Gary Josling, Ken Coleman and Paul Elliott - all nephews. Interment was in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. JAC( u RELINE FLORENCE (WALSH) MOCKLER Jacqueline Florence (Walsh) Mockler died Wednesday, September 13, 1989 at Victoria Hospital in London. She was 60. Born on June 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John Walsh and Mary Nigh. She was a member of the St. John the Divine Roman Catholic Church in Lon- don and the Catholic Women's League of the parish. Surviving are: her husband, Terrence Mockler, whom she married in 1950; nine sons, William and his wife Laurie of Port Credit, Paul and his wife Margaret, Gary and Joseph, all of Vancouver, Kevin and his wife Julianne of Quebec City, Edward and Donald of Toronto, and Terrence and Dennis of London; and two daughters, Laura and her husband Kenneth Cowan of Newmarket and Jacqueline of London. Also surviving are: a brother Michael (Brother Martin of Presentation Brothers) of Longueuil, Quebec, and William and his wife Pat of Montrose, Quebec; and sisters, Mary Ryan of Seaforth, Margaret Bayes of Scarborough, Teresa and her husband Fergus Feeney, Katherine Aslin of Scar- borough, Joan Clark of London, Rita and her husband Raymond Coombs of Egmond- ville; and sister -in-laws, Agnes Walsh of Stratford and Angela Walsh of London; and five grandchildren, Mrs. Mockler was predeceased by two brothers, Dennis and John, Friends were received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, and parish prayers were said Friday evening. A funeral mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday morning by a nephew, Father William Mockler, at St. John the Divine Church. Six sons were pallbearers, Donald, Gary, Edward, Joseph, Terrence and Dennis. Interment was in.St. Peter's Cemetery, London. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. STEPHEN HOLLAND Stephen Leo Holland of Oliphant, Ontario died Sunday, September 10, 1989 at the Owen Sound Hospital. He was 64. A son of the late Jack and Laura Holland of St. Columban, he served overseas during the Second World War with the Essex Scottish regiment, and lost his right foot when wounded in Holland. He is survived by his wife, the former Violet Hiley, son Richard and his wife Kathy of Brantford, and daughter Vicki and her husband Don Neudorf of Port Credit. Also surviving are: one grandson Paul Holland; one brother Conrad of London; six sisters, Loretta Batson of London, Gloria Bailey of Roseville, Michigan, Joan (Mrs. Glen Hildebrand) of Kitchener, Leona O'Connor of Toronto, Lenore (Mrs. Don Heard) of Oliphant and Mary (Mrs. John Fawcett) of London; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Holland was predeceased by four brothers, John of Seaforth, Kale of Wind- sor, George and Benedict; one half brother George; and one grandson Ryan Holland. The family received friends at the George Funeral Home in Wiarton on Tues- day, September 12, 1989, and prayers were recited followipg a Legion service. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church in Wier - ton on Wednesday, September 13, at 11 a.m. Burial was at Balsam Grove Cemetery, Oliphant. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. LEONARD R. (SPIKE) CLARK Leonard R. (Spike) Clark, died Saturday, September 9, 1989 at Victoria Hospital in Cambridge. He was 58. Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, the former Joan Walsh; a daughter Deborah of London; and sons, Raymond and his wife Cindy of London, Scott of Oshawa and Kevin at home. Also surviving are his parents, Lewis and Bona Clark of Hensall; brothers, Robert of Seaforth, William of Hensall and John of Lapier, Michigan; and three grandchildren. Visitors were received at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home and a funeral mass was held September 12 at Mary Im- maculate Church. Cremation and interment took place at St. Peter's Cemetery. Prayers were said September 11 at 8 p.m. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation. CHARLES RICHARD KRUSE Charles Richard Kruse died Friday, September 8, 1989 at the Stratford General Hospital. He was 44. Mr. Kruse is survived by his father, George Kruse, and sons, Stephen, James and Michael all at home. Also surviving are brothers, George of Bayfield, Gene of Wingham, Laurie of Egmondville, Paul of Clinton, Roy of Calgary and Timothy of Seaforth; and a sister, Heather Ann (Mrs. Brian McMichael) of Stratford. He was predeceased by his mother Jean (Dungey) Kruse. A funeral service was held at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home in Seaforth on September 11. Interment was at Maitland Bank Cemetery, Seaforth. Women's Institute tours craft room The Seaforth Women's institute held its September meeting in the form of a visit and tour of Mrs. Uwe Wisch's flower garden and craft room where she dries her own flowers and herbs. She demonstrated the making of a wreath from her own dried flowers. She also operates a bed and breakfast service. Gladys Doig conducted a short meeting and roll call was "What annoys you most about a manufactured product." The In- stitute is having a booth on Thursday, September 21 at the arena and will be ser- ving sandwiches, pie, and coffee. This is run in connection with the fair. Visit the display booth and get a ticket on the quilt at the fair.
