The original intent of the Farm Tax
Rebate Program was to "target" tax
relief to Ontario farmers. However, in re-

received large rebates. Under the 1988
program 8,015 corporations and limited
companies received payments with the

121,838 individuals not identified as cor-
porations or companies.
In discussions at their summer
meeting, the OCA. Board of Directors ex-
pressed major concern with the new re-
quirement for property owners .to farm

for the Farm Tax Rebate on that proper-
ty. It was felt that this requirement
would result in higher land rental prices
since non-farm property owners would
not be getting the rebate.
"Many cattlemen rent property to aug-
ment their land base", says Mr. Magee
"and with the narrow margins found in
beef production, cattlemen cannot afford
increases in land rents." A total of 28,482

they rented their land to someone else in
1988.

the whole issue of government transfer
programs as part of its national tripartite
stabilization discussions in an effort to
eliminate regional inequities. According

Erected to honor the memory of Ar-
chibald Dickson and Robert Scott and their
Sons, James Dickson and _Robert Scott, a
cairn now stands at Roxboro. The Dicksons
and Scotts settled on the banks of the
Maitland River at Roxboro in 1833. The
cairn, which has been erected by their
descendants, will be unveiled this fall.

Seaforth assessment will show an in-
crease of $60,141 over the previous year,
according to assessor Donald Haines, who
presented his annual report to council Mon-

Close to 10000 attended the Hensall Com-
munity Agricultural School Fair, .held,at
Hensall .arena Tuesday evening. The ,fair
was ,officially opened by P.L. McNaughton,
secretary -treasurer of the school board.
There may .be yet one more reunion of
men w.ho,served in the lst Canadian Infan-
try Battalion, C.E.F., 1914-1919. Sgt. Pete
Houghton, D.C,M., M.M. (and bar) thinks
there, are enough survivors to' hold aget-
together in London next year.
