CALLING ALL EMPIRE AIR
TRAINEES FROM SEAPORT - DO
YOU REMEMBER THIS FAMOUS
PHOTOGRAPH?.
If you "do then you Are probably eligible
to Attend the world's largest reunion -of
former Empire (Commonwealth) Air
Trainees to be field in 'Perth, 'Western
Australia between April :22 and10, 1990.
The two Avro Ansons .pictured Had col-
lided in midair over New South "Wales in
Australia in 1940.
Despite incredible odds, Len Fuller, the
pilot of the top aircraft successfully land-
ed both Ansons — only to be knocked
over two weeks later while riding his
bicycle!
That picture, and the sad aftermath,
will bring back many memories to the
more than '250,000 men who were selected
for air -crew training under the Empire
Air Training Scheme (Plan) from 1940 to
1945.
Although training was tough, close
friendships were formed between trainees
of many different lands. They were times
of great fellowship and hilarious
escapades, and also of great emotional
sadness when their `mates' went away
and never came back.
Now for the first time in 50 years, an
attempt is being made to get together as
many as possible of the surviving former
trainees from Australia, Great Britain,
Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, In-
dia and other Commonwealth countries,
Several thousand former trainees are
expected to wing their way into Perth,
Western Australia for this very moving
Golden Anniversary Reunion - a rotation
which will mean a great deal to those
who gave their all during the Second
World War.

An analysis carried out by western

review was conducted to correct statements
by the National Pork Producers Council
which indicated U.S. producers receive no
subsidies or other government assistance.
This cursory examination showed that
payments to producers in the U.S. included
transportation, taxation, feed and fuel ex-
cise tax benefits, plus Farmers Home Ad-
ministration funds and low cost loans. In ad-
dition, U.S. pork producers enjoy a
benevolent grain regime coupled with
generous drought payments.
Not included in the U.S. $9.00 figure is the
approximately $100 million recently spent
by the U.S.D.A.'s Agricultural Marketing
Service to purchase U.S. pork "(i)n an ef-
fort to assist pork producersen a period of
continued large hog marketings and . _lung
market prices" to quote U.S. Secretary of
Agriculture Clayton Yeutter. Mr. Yeutter
said the action was intended to improve
prices in the pig and pork markets.
Only two days following Yeutter's state-
ment, the N.P.P.C, told the I.T.C. that.
"U.S. pork producers do not benefit from a
price support program."
