BEST YEAR YET - The Seaforth Firefighters set up their annual toll at the Main
and Goderich Street intersection on Friday, to take donations from passing
motorists. Despite rainy travel weather, the firefighters surpassed last year's record
setting total of $2,500, by gathering $2,900 this year. The money goes to help fight

CPC requests review
The Canadian Pork Council has invoked
a provision of the Canada -U.S. Free
Trade Agreement by asking for bina-
tional panel review of the recent decision
by the U.S. Department ,of Commerce
that Canada subsidizes pork production.
This will be the first subsidy deter-
mination to be reviewed by a binational
panel since the Free Trade Agreement
went into effect on January 1, 1989.
Although the U.S. International Trade
Commission has not yet determined
whether countervailing duties should be
imposed on Canadian pork imports, an
appeal of the Commerce Department
decision had to he filed before an .August
23 deadline under Free Trade Agreement
rules.
A decision on the appeal is not ex-
pected until July of next year.
