XROSlTOR, SEPTEMBER -6, 1989 -- 9A GolHer more pre F Ii 1 i i. ,As many of the local golfers know, I have returned to school and am .spending Therweekdays in Toronto. It sure is nice to '!.orne dtome .on the weekends and get back o -reality..-especially on the golf course. Last week was my first week in the big .city and it was lots of fun finding my way around, making new friends and getting used to Toronto traffic. On Wednesday we were excused early after spending two and a half hours lined up to buy a few books. I had forgotten about lineups after living in Seaforth for 11 years. Anyway with a sunny afternoon ahead of me• and nothing on the agenda, I decided to have a "quick round" at Don Valley Golf Club. The course is easy to find and just a few minutes from where I'm staying. They said I couldn't miss it, and they were right. As I headed south on Yonge Street I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw some golfers practise putting just six feet from the side of the road. I wheeled in and headed to the proshop. The waiting time was one hour and 28 minutes, but the fact that I was on my own allowed me to join up with another group and tee off just 48 minutes after I arrived. Green fees were only $13.50 and a pull cart $3, not bad for the city and I had heard it was a well kept municipal course. On the tee I met my two playing part- }'GREENS by Carolanne Doig ners, both PramKorea and :Daly in Canada a few years. Off we went and thank goodness they had been there before or I never would have found my way around. From the first green to the second tee was about a quarter mile or more walk, right under the 401 overpass. Not exactly the quietest course I've been on. Things were going well until we got to the second tee and there were four groups waiting By the time we teed off the two groups behind us had caught up. This was the trend for the rest of the round, You played the hole in about 10 minutes, and then spent 30 minutes on the next tee. After four or five holes you were on a first name basis with about 16 other golfers. The course was very scenic and challenging and was in excellent condition considering how busy it was. However, in spite of the fact I was playing well, I on- ly had time to play nine holes. I had ar- rived at the course at 1:40 and left at 5:40, and only got nine holes in. Hopefully I'll get back to play the back nine one day. After lining up all day for books and then Amateur horsemen in Bayfield F The Bayfield Fall Fair was the setting for the latest South Huron All Breeds Horse Association (SHABHA) Show, with 26 horses participating.
