UNUSUAL CATCH - Ken Jewitt of Seaforth came home from the French River
recently, with a rather unusual, and rare, catch. Using live bait, Mr. Jewitt caught
an eight -pound, long -mouthed Gar Pike. When he got it home he found that it not
only intrigued himself, but daughters (from left) Kimberley, Kelly and Kendra.

Mosquitos ousted from playoff tournament
MOSQUTI O
The St. Columban Mosquitos travelled
to Lucan on Saturday, August 26 to com-
pete in the Mosquito Division Champion-
ship Tournament. On the basis of St. Col-
umban's first place finish they received a
"Bye" into the semi-finals.
ST. COLUMBAN 3 NAIRN 0
St. Columban's first game of the day
was against Nairn who they shut -out 3-0.
Mike Hugill, Lawrence Flanagan and
Jason Henderson all scored singles for St.
Columban. Greg Visser recorded the
shutout. The win put St. Columban into
the "A" division finals against Exeter.
EXETER 2 ST. COLUMBAN 1
The "A" division final was typical Ex-
eter - St. Columban Mosquitos game. It
was a fast, exciting game with both
teams having excellent scoring chances.
The first half started with teams play-
ing defensively. Midway through the first
half Dave Middegaal stripped the ball off
an Exeter defender and blasted a bullet
shot from outside the 18 yard box into the
top corner of the net. The rest of the first
hall was all St. Columban as St. Colum -
ban took the play to Exeter. St. Colum -
ban had excellent scoring chances but
some erratic shooting by St. Columban
kept the score 1-0 at the half. The second
half started much the same way. The
first half ended with St. Columban having
the advantage of play..
It was with less than 10 minutes left in
the final hall that Exeter tied the game
on a defensive' lapse by St. Columban.
Exeter started pressing after that goal
and for awhile it looked like the tourna-
ment night see its first overtime of the
day, but with less than three minutes re-
maining Exeter broke through and fired
a low shot to the corner to win the game.
Congratulations to the mosquito team
on their first place finish and for display-
ing some very exciting soccer.
