Roberta Templeman presided for the business and members were reminded of the upcoming theatre date at Blyth on Tuesday August 22, and of an invitation to attend the 85th anniversary and Tweedsmuir Tea of the Avonton Women's Institute on October 18. Staffa Women's Institute is sponsoring Joan Kerslake in the Queen of the Fair 'ompetition at Mitchell and the P.R.O. Verle Mahon is looking after the sash and flowers. Articles were brought to the meeting in preparation for the Women's Institute Display at Mitchell Fair and the committee is setting this up September 30. Doris Miller reported on the recent District Executive meeting in Kirkton, reminding everyone of the one day, Lon- don Area Convention at Embro Communi- ty Centre on October 12. A refreshing lunch of cookies and punch was served by Joyce and Doris. HORSE SHOW Ashley Wettlaufer attended the Thames Valley riders club show in St. Mary's on Sunday at which Nicholas and David Chessell participated. Nicholas placed first in Lead Line, riding Sparkling Ac- tion, and David placed third in Lead Line, riding Gold. Mane Chessell also showed Gold and Sparkling Action, placing well. STAR TREK CONVENTION Donna Beuermann and Wendy Whiston accompanied Carol Bennewies and Cheryl McGrath to a Star Trek Convention in Toronto on the weekend. PLOWING MATCH A good crowd attended the Perth Coun- ty plowing match on Saturday, hosted by Warden Ivan Norris and his wife Betty Lou, ' their farm in Hibbert Township. PEOPLE John and Marjorie Drake were guests at the Flanagan-Papple wedding in Seaforth on Saturday. BLYTH FESTIVAL Over 30 Staffa Women's Institute members, their spouses and friends, en- joyed the play, "The Perils of Persephone" at the Blyth Festival on Tuesday evening. We wish him continued health improvement from surgery. With Joe and Olga during last week and on the weekend were their daughters and families; Barbara from Mississauga, Jack and Nancy Storey and Chris, Clinton, Shirley and Renee Van Loon, Newmarket, Nora and Steve Eckert and Tanya, Newmarket, Judy Evans and girls, Rose Boryswick and children, all from Stratford, Joan and Tom Hummell from Petewawa. Ken and Helma Wright also called on Joe and Olga from Newmarket last week. Visiting with Mrs. Millie Evans during last week were Bea Fadden from Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jordan from Sarnia, and Bill and Marj Evans from Niagara Falls were also home for the weekend with their mother Millie Evans. The following local Sir Knights Don MacRae, Jerry Murray and Roy Swart of the 4th Degree Monsenlour D.J. Egan Assembly attended the rededication of the newly decorated St. Marys Roman Catholic Church in Henson which was blessed by Bishop Sherlock of London on Thursday evening. On Sunday, August 27th, the cornerstone was laid for the new Secret Heart Roman Catholic Church in Wingham. Bishop Sherlock was escorted by the 4th Degree K of C D.J. Egan Assembly. Local knights attending were Jerry Murray, Louis Kraemers and Don MacRae. Donna and Jim Paratchek, Beverley and Gregory have returned home from an en- joyable holiday at Manitoulin Island. Keith and Audrey Davidson were up from Kitchener with Don and Eileen MacRae, and also visited their mother. Mrs. Ada Davidson in the Ritz Lutheran Villa, Mitchell. Sister Margaret Rose Eckert of Strathroy visited with Cecilia Ryan on Tuesday, August 22. We also visited with Theresa Kelly of Mitchell, Olga Eckert, Dublin, (Joe was in the Stratford Hospital) and Annie Cronin of St. Columban. Laura and Les Ward of Kitchener and Cecilia Ryan spent Wednesday, August 23 visiting with sister Mary Eckert of Chatham. About 28 neighbors from McKillop Township of Jim and 'Jean Maloney, former residents of McKillop Township on the fifth concession, gathered at the Knights of Columbus Hall in St. Colurn- ban on Friday evening for a farewell to their neighbors. Progressive euchre was played with Rita Moylan winning the prize for the high lady and Jim Maloney for the high man. An address was read and Jim and Jean were presented with an oak clock. The party was organized by Ray and Eleanor Maloney and Leon and Mary Maloney. Jim and Jean and their family are now living in their new home in Dublin. Mark Ryan, Debbie Core, Cecilia Ryan and Louise Ryan visited on Sunday after- noon with Jim and Pat Subject and fami- ly of Kitchener.
