Linda '-Hartman greeted worshippers at
Hensall United Church. Our guests again
this .week were members of the Carmel
Presbyterian Church.
Janis :Bisback sang "0 Rest In The
Lord", -and Rev. Wright's sermon war
"Surprise". Ushers were Grant St. John
and Doug' Mock.
The 33rd :General Council of The United
University of Western Ontario August
19-23, 1990. A competition has been an-
nounced to design a logo for the Council.
Volunteers will be needed before and dur-
ing the Council. Spectators will be
welcome to observe. Contact Rev Wright
for more information.
PEOPLE
Over 100 members of the Baker family
gathered at the home of Grant and
Gladys McGregor on Saturday. Family
members travelled from as far away as
Kingston to reacquaint themselves with
cousins, aunts and uncles
Jamie Campbell of Guelph is spending
the week visiting with Brad Hartman.

Carollyn Rimenzwaan, spent last week
visiting with Kari Taylor and famih

Kirkpatrick and cousin of Belfast,
Ireland. They were accompanied by
Marie Douglas of Atwood and Jay Ball of

Sunday, August 20 over 60 people at-
tended the annual McCall Picnic at the
Blyth .Lion's Park. Just at noon rain hit
the area making it neeessary to have the
smorgasbord meal in the club house.
Stephen Burke conducted a short
business period, and Donna Mitchell read
the minutes of last year's picnic.
The election of officers for next year's
went as follows. President - Stephen
Burke; Vice -President - Doreen McCall;
Secretary - Debbie Blake: sports - Adam
and Andrew Perrier tables - Murray and
Sherry McCall.
A generous donation was made to the
Lion's Club for the use of their facilities.
.Sports were conducted by Susan Buff -
Conestoga Family Park.
Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John
Vanass and family were Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Van Vugt, London, and Mr. and Mrs.
Pete Van Boekel, lnnerkip.
On Wednesday evening, August 16,
friends, neighbours and relatives
gathered at the community centre for a
bridal shower for Verna Perrie. Verna,
Mrs. Perrie and Mrs. Draper were seated

mga and Marion Young. A prize was
given to John A. Perrie as the oldest per-
son at the picnic; the oldest married cou-
ple was John and Clara Perrie: and the
couple with an anniversary closest to this
date was Bert and Susan Buffinga. Adam
Bower was the youngest present.
The boys were able to have a ball
game while others visited. A good time
was had by all.
BALL TOURNAMENT
Walton Ball Park hosted a round robin
squirt tournament this past weekend.
There were two great days of sunshine
for this event. Taking part in the tourna-
ment were teams from Belgrave, Har-
riston, Belmore and Cargill.
The "B" division championship was
between Cargill and Bellmore with Cargill
coming out on top by a score of 15 to 0
The winning team received a trophy and

at the front where they were entertained
by a mock wedding. Verna was then
presented with gifts followed by lunch
and a social time,
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler spent
ten days camping at Earl Rowe Provin-
cial Park recently. Several noticeable im-
provements have been added to this park
including a one -acre swimming pool.

Mrs Barbara Plumb of Northcrest
spent a few days last week with her
sister Peggy Loftus and mother. Bertha

Hazel Luther returned home after spen-
ding a month with family and friends in
Newfoundland.
Dr. and Mrs Raymond Parr of Curun-
na visited on Sunday with the McKnights.
Pearl McKnight spent a lovely day last
week with Sadie Hoy of Hensel! at her
cottage near Pt. Clarke
SHUFFLEBOARD
The Hensall Happy Pushers shuffled
August 15 at the community center. Top
scorer was Walter Knowles 508, followed
by Gertie Moir 465, Eileen Dowson 460,
Dorothy Brintnell 427 and Annie Reid 416.

The "A" division final was played by
Belmore and Harriston, with Harriston
winning by default. The winning team
received a trophy and souvenir hats and
Belmore recieved Masts.
There was a most valuable player
trophy handed out at the "A" division
game with the winner being Joel Martin,
pitcher for the Harriston team.
in 'the "B" division the most valuable
player was John Cephick, pitcher for the
Cargill team.
• SQUIRT GIRLS WIN
The Walton Squirt girls team defeated
the Seaforth "B" team in the play-offs
and are now playing the Seaforth "A"
team. On Sunday evening they won play-
ing against the Seaforth "A" team. They
play back in Walton Tuesday evening.

Monday morning energetic rest home
residents gathered in the activity room
after • breakfast for Fun and Fitness, A
few participants, as well as their leader,
find those toe touches a little difficult
over a full stomach, but we persevere
Library hour was held in the afternoon
and attended by several residents.
The weekly church service Tuesday
afternoon was composed of contributions
by several residents. Myrtle Rodd sang a
solo, and Lillian Smith, Laving Watson
and Mildred Giugerich contributed scrip-
ture readings. Laving led a recitation of
the Ten Commandments. Visitors Tom
and Phyllis Desjardine sang a duet for
us, and Joyce Pepper was our volunteer
pianist. Following the service residents
shared refreshments and fellowship with
visitors.
Wednesday following exercises we
discussed the coming Lunar Eclipse. We
hope many of you watched this
fascinating event. Baking Club met in the
afternoon.
Agri/Club met Thursday afternoon. One
of our favorite resource magazines is the
Rural Voice. We often read columns and
articles from the publication. Giselle
Ireland always leaves us laughing.
"Nikki, Wild Dogof the North" was our
featured film Thursday evening. It seem-
ed to .meet all the most desired criteria
preferred by residents. It was a nature
filmiabout an animal, produced by, Walt
Disney.
O>l Sunday residents.and volunteers en-
joyed a. picnic lunch in Clinton and had a
great .time cheering on their favorite
horse -at the Clinton Racetrack. Thank
