Local youth team wins third quizzing trophy

The South Huron Youth For Christ Quiz
Team travelled to Circle "C" Ranch to
compete In the quizzing finals. The event
was held on Friends and Family Day Ju-
ly 22 at Delevan, New York. The team
won the trophy for the third year in a
row, a first in Circle "C"s twenty year
history.
The team came first in quizzing at
Snow Camp in February. It then returned
for the finals on Friends and Family Day
where approximately 1,500 people par-
ticipate in the activities of the day which
includes a professional rodeo, horseback
riding and quizzing.
Team members were Doug Cudmore,
Woodham; DeAnn Foreman, Zurich;
team captain Philip Gower, Goderich;
Kathy Mizen, Goderich; and Jeff
Westlake, Bayfield. Coaches Pat and Ron
Westlake, Bayfield travelled with the
team by van.
The team members belong to various
South Huron Youth For Christ quiz teams
from area towns and have participated in
the quizzing program at the rallies held
at the Brucefield Public School on the
first Saturday of the month. The first ral-
ly of the fall will be on October 7 at 8
p.m. with Joe Baker, a former rally
director, and the first round of quizzing.

HENSALL UNITED CHURCH
Service was held on Sunday at Hensall
United Church, after three weeks of
holidays. An invitation has been extended
to the congregation of Carmel
Presbyterian Church to join the worship
service at Hensall United for the month
of August.
Ian McAllister greeted the worshippers
to hear Bob Elliott who chose for the ser-
mon, "Our Common Foundation", taken
from the Gospel lession John 15:1.8. Don-
na St. John sang a lovely solo "All
Things Bright and Beautiful" with Debbie
Wood at piano. Ushers were Grant St.
John and Dave Wood. Flowers were from
the funeral of Pearl Shaddick. Words of
sympathy were expressed from the con-
gregation to George and Judy and Bill
and Debby and famiies. See you at

On Thursday, July 27 "The Landscape
Lovers" of McKillop No. 4 had their
achievement night at the Community
Centre in Bluevale. They presented a
play that went well.
Michelle Murray, Morgan Murray,

JOSEPH J. MCMANN
Joseph J. McMann of Elgin, Illinois, died
Saturday, July 8, 1989 in Sherman
Hospital. He was 81.
Born in Seaforth on March 27, 1908 he
was the son of the late John and Annie
(Eckert) McMann.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy;
three step daughters; and his four sisters,
Kathleen Scott, Helen Tate, Emily Hoit
and Florence Spizzirri.
The funeral mass was celebrated at St.
Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin, with
interment at Lakewood Memorial Park.
PAUL RAU
Paul Patrick Rau of Water Street in
Egmondville died Wednesday, August 2,
1989 at his residence. He was 44.
Mr. Rau is survived by his wife, the
former Debbie Miller; and daughters Kim
and Kelly, both at home.
Mao surviving are; his mother, Isabelle
Rau of Seaforth; brothers, Wayne of
Goderich and Greg of Grand Bend; and
sisters, Juliana (Mrs. Jim Barnes) of
Toronto and Mary Jane (Mrs. Gerry Arm-
strong) of RR 2 Kippen. He was a son-in-
law of George and Joyce Miller of Seaforth
and brother-in-law of Vicki and Craig
Belton of North Carolina; and uncle to 15
nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rau was predeceased by his father
Verdun Rau.
'The family received friends at the
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home and a Mass
of the Christian Burial was held at St.
James Roman Catholic Church in
Seaforth. Interment St. James Cemetery,
Seaforth.
Pallbearers were Jim Sills, Terry Craig,
Bill Webber, Ken Coyne, Jim Preszcator
.and Ken Devereaux. Flowerbearers were
Murray Henderson, Terry Rutledge, Jim
Mite, Bill Strong and Harvey Dale.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Dickson,
Palmerston, visited on Wednesday with
Wilfred and Mrs. Strickler.
Mrs. Don Dickison is a patient in
Listowel Hospital where she underwent
surgery on July 30.
ELIZABETH CONNOLLY
Elizabeth Connolly died Sunday, August
6, 1989 at the Marian Villa. She was 88.
Born in Ellis Township, she was a
daughter of the late John Murray and
Catherine Stock. She was married to
Joseph Connolly in Kinkora in 1923, and the
couple farmed in McKillop Township until
retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Connolly is survived by daughters,
Sister Irene of St. Joseph's Community,
Windsor, Grace (Mrs. Dominic Murray) of
Seaforth, Marie (Mrs. Jim Marrinan) of
Mossley, Cecelia (Mrs. Jack Kelly) of Lon-
don, Helen (Mrs. John Young) of Nova
Scotia and Lorretta (Mrs. Ross Riley) of
Cromarty; one son, John of Kitchener; 34
grandchildren; and 36 great-
grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband
Joseph; sons and daughters, Rita Kenny,
Michael and his wife Mary, Joseph, Cecil,
Frances and Mary; four brothers, Jim,
John, Michael and Peter; two sisters,
Mary and Kate; and four grandchildren.
The family received friends at the
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home in Seaforth
and a Mass of the Christian Burial was
held at St. Patricks Roman Catholic
Church in Dublin. Interment St. Columban
cemetery. Parish prayers were held at the
funeral home as well.
Pallbearers were David Kenney, Ron
Murray, Pat Connolly, Paul Marrinan,
Jim Kelly and Ron Riley. Flowerbearers
were Laurence Cole, Wayne Cole, Kelly
Murray, Sarah Murray, John Francis Kel-
ly and Danny Smith.
ANTONE HENRY SIEMON
Antone Henry Siemon, formerly of
Seaforth, died Monday, July 31, 1989 at the
Ritz Villa in Mitchell. He was 83.
He is survived by his second wife, the
former Frieda Doerr; daughters, Doris
(Mrs. Ken Carnochan) of RR 4 Seaforth,
Rose (Mrs. Robert Robinson) of RR 4
Walton, and Grace (Mrs. Jerry Davis) of
Gibson, British Columbia; stepdaughters,
Hazel.(Mrs. Alvin Beuermann) of Dublin,
Ruby (Mrs. Con Moore) of Toronto, Ber-
nice (Mrs. Hugh McPherson) of Seaforth,
Laurene (Mrs. Jim Horan) of Mitchell,,Jo-
Ane (Mrs. Clare French) of Mitchell, Bet-
ty (Mrs. Frank McCutcheon) of Brussels
and • Kathy (Mrs. Gerry Cooper) of
Seaforth; and step son, Bob Doerr of Ailsa
Craig.
Also surviving are five sisters, Minnie
Vock of Mitchell, Mabel Rode of Listowel,
Annabelle Spiece of Niagara Falls, Martha
Rock of Mitchell and Gerrie Boyd of
Seaforth; and three brothers, Lords of

Charlene Engel, Elmira, spent a week
with her grandparents, Ross and Mrs.
Engel.
Ron and Rosanne, Burdett, Waterloo,
are the proud parents of Brittany Rose,
born July 31, a sister for Brent. Grand-
parents are Marilyn Clark, Stratford, and
Bruce and Marion Burdett, Waterloo and
great grandmother, Mrs. Mac Engel,
Cranbrook.

Mr. Siemon was predeceased by his first
wife, the former Christine Eisler; three
brothers, Albert, John and Warren; and
two sisters, Alice Brooks and Adeline
Dolmage.
A funeral service was held August 3 at
St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brodhagen,
with the Reverend Stev. Alles of Zurich of-
ficiating. Organist was Lois Bennewies.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Brad Car-
nochan, Bruce Williams, Scott Robinson
and Brent Robinson. Flowerbearers were
granddaughters, Darlene Williams, Jane
Robinson and Anne Robinson, and grand-
son, Jeff Robinson.
Funeral arrangements were conducted
by the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home in
Seaforth.
RUDOLPH W. FISCHER
Rudolph William Fischer, a resident of
the Mitchell Nursing Home, died at his
residence on Thursday, July 27, 1989. He
was 97.
Born in Logan Township on July 10, 1892,
he was a son of the late Henry Fischer and
the former Augusta Hollatz.
On October 30, 1917 he was married to
the former Annie Mogk. Following their
marriage the couple farmed in McKillop
Township. Mr. Fischer was a member of
St. Peters Lutheran Church in Brodhagen
and was a former member of the Mitchell
Senior Citizens.
He is survived by one son/Ralph and his
wife Joyce of Seaforth; and two daughters,
Olive (Mrs. Edwin Scherbarth) of Mitchell
and Marjorie (Mrs. Kenneth Smith of
Bornholm. •
Also surviving are: one brother, Edward
Fischer of the Ritz Lutheran Villa, Mit-
chell; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great
grandchildren.
Mr. Fischer was predeceased by three
sisters, four brothers and one
granddaughter.
Friends were received at the Lockhart
Funeral Home and a funeral service was
held at St. Peters Lutheran Church in
Brodhagen by the Reverend Bob Book,
assisted by the Reverend Ray Scherbarth.
The church choir was in attendance and
sang, Softly and Tenderly, accompanied
by Lois Bennewies at the organ.
Pallbearers were grandsons Laurie
Fischer, Dean $mitheutd -RayScherbarth,
and nephews Keith Fischer, Roy Fischer
and John Ritz. Interment was in the
church cemetery.
On the Friday evening inenibers of the
Mitchell Senior Citizens held :a :service at
the funeral home with Carl Dammar in
charge.
