The St. Columban Minor Soccer
Association's 4th Annual Mosquito Soccer
Tournament was held Saturday, July 29.
Eight teams entered but only seven came
to play as one team cancelled out.

was against Nairn which .they won 6-0
putting Embro in the "A" Division of the
tournament. St. Columban's first oppo-
nent cancelled out - automatically putting
St. Columban in the "A" Division.
Boyd Devereaux scored twice for St.
Columban with Jason Henderson and
Darrel Cronin adding singlles. This win
put St. Columban into the "A" Division
(mats against Exeter.

final should be. Good passing, tough
defence, aggressive :goaltender and close
scoring chances at both ends was the

in the Lateen and District Soccer League:
Jason Henderson scored St. Columban's
lone goal, in the first half on a ,booming
shot into the top corner of the net. The
second .half featured some very good
defensive soccer with neither team able
to score.
St. Columban Minor Soccer President
Frank Verberne presented the "B"
Championship trophy to Goderich after
Goderich's 3-2 overtime win against
Nairn in the "13" finals. The "A" Cham-
pionship trophy, donated by Verberne's
Appliance :and .Refrigeration .Service, was
presented to :the St. Columban Mosquito
coaches and .players by tournament
chairperson. Barb Vesper.

Squirts move up ladder with ieague soccer win
:SQUIRTS
-The St. Columban Squirts moved up the
:standings in the Lucan and District Soc-
cer .League with a 3-2 twin over .third
:place Nairn II this week.
-The. Squirts jumped to a fast 2-0 leadat
halftime but ran into penalty problems
.giving Nairn 11 four penalty shots in the
,second half.
Jared Murray scored the hat trick and
goaitender Bradley Murray continues to
:improve with every :outing. The Squirt's
,last regular season game is 'Thursday,
August 3 when they travel to Arva.
ATOM II
Tara Flanagan's first goal of the year
was the only goal the :St. Columban ;Atom
Us needed as they downed Coldstream 1-0
in Coldstream on Monday, July 24. Adaat3

;umban. Jason Cooper fired the haat trick
:while Dean Murray and Terry Kelly each
:scored once. Brian tMelady was in goal

SQUIRTS
On Thursday, July 20 in Dublin the St.
Columban Squirts beat Exeter III by the
score of 2-0. Jared Murray and Keegan
Teichert were the goalscorers while
.goaltenders Daniel O'Reilly and Bradley
Murray -shared the shutout.
The .:win ,pushes the Squirts season
record to 8 -wins - 2 losses. The Squirts
:next home .game is 'Thursday, July 27 in
Dublin against Nairn II.

'MOSQUITO
The two top teams in. the Mosquito divi-
sion of the Lucan and district ,soccer
league squared off on Tuesday, July 18
and battled to an exciting 1-1 .tie. Exeter
scored midway through the first half to
take the lead but Karl Terpstra evened
the .score ,before the half .ended.
The second half saw some fine ,soccer
but .both sides were unable to score: The
tie gave ,St. Coitunban a three ,point lead
over Exeter atop the leading :standings.
The Mosq's next home game is Tuesday,
August 1 in St. Columban against Lucan.
PEE WEE
Jeff Ryan registered his first shutout of
the .season in a 4-0 triumph ,over Welton
in St. Columban on Tuesday, July 18.
