COMBINE FIRE - A combine owned by John Swinkels caught fire Wednesday after-
noon, on Jim Rose's property south of Egmondville Mr Swinkels said he smelled
smoke and ran to the house tor a bucket of water, then he and others on the farm dous-
ed the flames under the combine with five buckets of water to have the blaze under
control by the time the Seaforth Fire Department arrived Firefighters are seen here tur-
ning their hoses on the combine fire. Mr. Swinkels says the fire was caused by dust, dry

EDITOR'S NOTE - The following are
some reminisces by Harry Hinchley, of the
Seaforth Citizen's Band and a Garden Party
it,once hosted. Mr. Hinchiey now lives in
Renfrew, Ontario, but has vivid recollec-
tions of his time and •experiences in
Seaforth.
OUR BAND GARDEN PARTY
JULY .28, 1921 r
Our • Band Garden Party was held in
Victoria Park. The .proceeds were to help
.pay for the new Highland uniforms the
Band was to .wear the following year.
In 1921, Seaforth had a .good .band. It
had been reorganized in 1920 after having
been dormant for some years. Bill
Freeman was Bandmaster .and ;he was
well able to handle the job. He was a
good musician and a elpiendid cornet
,player. Often he would conduct :the band
with his left hand while ,playing the cor-
net with his right.
The 1921 band was built .around a •core

the Seaforth Citizen's Ban -
To bring the band up to strength, Bill
Freeman had brought m about a dozen
beginners. He had trained them all
winter and by summer they were able to
play out with the band.
In 1921 there were few cars, no radio
or television and no sound pictures. Men
had time to play m the band. Practices
were held every Tuesday evening for two
hours and in summer the band gave a
concert every Thursday evening from 8
o'clock to 10. Besides this there were
many garden parties and socials, parades
In order that the friendly staff at The Huron Expositor
may enjoy the long weekend with family and friends,
the office will be
and other chances to play out so the boys
had enough playing to keep their lips in
shape.
1921 was the last year of the Citizens'
Band. By special permission of the
Seaforth Highlanders Regiment they had
been granted the right to wear the
uniform of the famous Seaforth
Highlanders. These were ordered from
Scotland and in 1922 when the ,band first
appeared they wore their new uniforms.
From then on they were called the
Seaforth Highlanders Band,
