Saturday, May 4th is notable as the
day when the first passengers and the
first freight arrived in Goderioh over
the Guelph and Goderich line. The
passengers were no less distinguished
personages than Vice-president D Mc-
Niohol of the C. P. R., Assistant Gener-
al Manager 3. W. Leonard and Engine-
er J. M. et. Fairbairn. These gentle-
men, accompanied by their secretaries,
arrived at Sharpe's Creek on Friday
evening last in a special train, consist-
ing ot Vice -President McNichol's pri-
vate oar, a private sleeper and a private
dining car. A speed of sixty miles an
hour was made over the track from
Guelph to Blyth, but from there
on such a speed was, of course, not
attempted, owing to the traoks not
being ballasted, but it begins to look as
if the opening of the line to Goderich is
not so far off when a train can get over
the tracks to within six miles of the
town.

Buffalo on sthe Flathead Reseavation,
Montana, had been sold to the Canadian
Government. The bulls will be remov-
ed to Canada about May lat, and the

July. There are between 400 and 500
buffalo in the herd, which is the largest
in the world. The ptice is said to be
$150,000.
A new anaesthetic which will be of
great importance to surgery, has been
discovered and used in England for
some months. It is called Stovaine, and
when injected into the spinal column
causes partial paralysis below the point
of injection, so that a man's leg may be
amputated without his being rendered
unconscious. It is a powerful drcg
however, and its use will be restricted
to skilled operators.
The death of MrslAgnes Ross, aged 76
years, relict of the late John R. Ross,
000urred on Tuesday, May 7th, at the
family residence, Broadway,Kincardine.
Deceased had been ailing for about a
year pant, but her death was not maid-
pated by the family, She and her hus-
band came here from Zorra over 20
years ago and settled on a farm near
Berrie where they lived until they mov-
ed into Kincardine. She was a member
of Knox Presbyterian church and was
highly esteemed by all who knew her.
