Seaforth places second in district senior games
The Seaforth and area seniors captured
second place in the 5th annual Tri -County
District Senior Games on June 26 and 27 in
Exeter.
The games involving Huron, Perth and
Middlesex counties, were won again this
year by defending champion Mitchell
seniors who took 102 points. But Seaforth
claimed second spot with 53 points, edging
out third place Stratford with 51.
Following is a list of the Seaforth par-
ticipants, their event, and where they plac-
ed in their event.
• Five pin bowling: Don Wood, Anne Wood,
Hazel McGonigle, Bert Walters, and Gordon
Murray all placed third.
• Softball throw: Dave Cornish placed
third.
• Bridge: Ruth Waltham and Fred
Waltham tied for first place.
• Darts: Barb Scott and Gord Scott placed
second.
• Carpet bowling: Andy Lunn and Jean
Lunn placed third.
• Solo: Fred Harburn placed third.
• Golf: Barb Scott placed second in 30-40
handicap.
• Swimming: Sid Scroggs placed first in 25
metre and third in 50 metre, Vivienne
Newsham placed third in prediction swim,
and Betty Leonhardt placed second in the 25
metre.
In total 39 Seaforth area seniors took part
in 17 events in the games, and 16 of them
placed among the top three competitors in
their events.
ane semor games potluck supper was held
Monday night at the Seaforth and District
Community Centres. Each of the local win-
ners was presented with a ribbon from
Mayor Hazel Hildebrand.
District Senior Games Co-ordinator Bill
Douglas and Mrs. Douglas were guests at
the potluck, as were Mr. And Mrs. John Pat-
terson, previous organizers of the Seaforth
Senior Games before they moved to
Stratford.
Following the potluck a game of euchre
was held. and the high couple was Hazel
McGonigle and Rita Kerr, high number of
lone hands was Hellen Byers and Ernie Har-
burn, and lowest were this year's Seaforth
Senior Games Chairman Charlie Perkins,
and Ernie Harburn.

SENIOR GAMES WINNERS - Seaforth took home the second

St. Columban played at home last
Wednesday July 5 and lost to London
Nothers Spurs by a score of 2 to 0.
The Spurs opened the scoring in the
"first five minutes of the game as they
capitalized"on a defensive error made

St. Columban's forwards had several
wide open shots from close in but could
not put the ball in the net.
The second half started the same way
as • the first. J oth teams provided the
local fans with thrilling action. St. Colum -
ban finally scored but as luck would have
it the referee disallowed the goal.
St. Columban players were very
frustrated but to their credit did not give
up and played hard right to the final
whistle. With any luck at all around the
London Spurs net St. Columban could
easily have won the game. But the Spurs
scored near the end of the game to end
the scoring at London Spurs 2 St. Colum -
ban 0.
Last week's game was the first game
in the second half of the schedule. St.
Columban did not have a bad first ,half of
the season and with a little more luck
they could be contending for first place.
St. Columban's coach Tony Arts com-
mented that in all seven games in the
first half of the season his team was
Ieading at half .time art that if his
layers would play the second half of the
game the way that they play the first
half there is no doubt that St. Columban
would be in first place. Mr. Arts further
said that he is impressed to see his
players adjusting to the higher calibre of
soccer, and they are improving with ,each
game. Coach Arts would like to thank all
the fans for their support and said that
he and his team are looking forward to a
better second half to the season - and
possibly winning the Challenge Cup in
August.

Next home game is Sunday July 16 at
oldtimers
4:30 pm in St. Columban against Exeter
for an exhibition match.
Sunday night the under 18 St. Columban
club took on St. Columban soccer
veterans from earlier teams. About 25 to
30 old .timers, ranging in age from their
late 20's to field generals of 50 years
were out for the contest.
A good crowd of fans bordered the field
to see what was a surprisingly good
game which ended with a 5-5 tie.
Another old timers match will be
organized for later this season.

SQUIRTS
The St. Columban Squirts upped their
season's record to six wins - two losses
with a 5-0 win over Lucan 111 in Dublin
on Thursday, July 6. Keegan Telchert
scored a hat trick with Daniel Nash and
Jared Murray scoring singles. Curtis
Murray and Bradley Murray shared the
shut -out. The Squirts' next home game is
