CELA ADELINESLOMAN
CelaAdeline Sloman of Clinton, died Fri-
day, June 16,1 t 19abher home. She was 92.
The -former Lela sRathwell, she was the
daughter of the late William and Annie
(Beacom) Rathwell of Goderich
Township. She trained as a teacher and
taught kin'dertgarten in Toronto before her
1923 Christmas Day marriage in Blyth to
Fred Sloman. The following year the cou-
ple moved to Latchford where they taught
for two years, before 'Mr. Sloman was
chosen one of the first 'teachers in On-
tario's new experiment in education for
Northern Ontario - the railway school -on -
wheels.
The Slomans remained with CN•R"s
School -on -Wheels 15089, operatingbetween

Capreol and Folyet in Sudbury Diatrict for
39 years, during which time Mr. Sloman
became known as "the dean of school car
teachers".
The Slomans retired to Clinton in 1964
and in 1982 the Town of Clinton purchased
CNR 15889. It now stands in Sloman Park
as a public museum and memorial to •the
family.
In 1982 Mrs. Sloman was awarded the
Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship and 1n
1984 was made a member of the Order of
Canada for her dedication and courage at
her husband's side, and for bringing light
and laughter into the darkness of a lonely
land.
She is survived by daughters, Joan and
her husband W.D. Reid of Oro Station, Dr.
Lisbeth and her husband Dr. Donald
Hillman of St. John's Newfoundland and
Kenga, Africa, Margaret at home and
Fredda (Toby) Rainey of Brussels; and
one son Bill and his wife June of Daven-
port, Iowa.
Also surviving are grandchildren,
Alison, Jamie, Dan, Alan, Elizabeth, D'Ar-
cy, Andrew, Michael, Heather, Cindy,
Richard and Melissa.
Mrs. Sloman was predeceased by her
husband Fred; her brother and sister-in-
law, Elmer and Gladys Beacom; and one
granddaughter, Patti Jo Sioman.
Funeral arrangements were made by
the Ball and Falconer Funeral Home.
Donald Sloman, Neil Elliott and grandsons
Jamie, Donnie and Alan Hillman and
Michael Rainey, served as pallbearers. In-
terment was in Baird's Cemetery,
Goderich Township, on Monday, June 19.
Memorial donations to the CNR School -
on -Wheels 15089, Box 488 Clinton, would be
greatly appreciated as expressions of
sympathy.
MARION MURRAY
Marion Therese (Kale) Murray of RR 4
Walton, died Wednesday, June 7, 1989 at
the Seaforth Community Hospital. She was
61.

She is survived by tier husband Fra>ffk
Murray; sons, Dann and Wife Sharon and
Brian'and'wife Wendy, all of RR 4 Walton
and Tam and wife Brenda of London; and
daughter, Colleen and husband Laurie
Fischer of RR 4 Walton.
Also surviving :are 11 grandchildren; is
sister Mrs. Lou (Pat) O'Reilly; and a
brother Tom and wife Bea Kale, all of
Seaforth.
Friends were received at the Whitney-
Ribey Funeral Home in Seaforth and
Mass of Christian`Surlal was held June 10
at St. Columban Roman Catholic Church.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Parish
prayers were said June 9 at the funeral
home.
Pallbearers were Al Koehler, Jack
Horan, Ken Murray, Carl Siemon, Tom
Eckert and Nick Klaver.
ELIZABETH BROWN
Corrected Version
Elizabeth Brown of Seaforth, died Sun-
day, June 4, 1989 at Huronview in Clinton.
She was 87.
The former Elizabeth Kruse, she is sur-
vived by daughters, Bernice (Mrs. Ken
Chambers) of Blyth, Jacqueline (Mrs.
Doug Racho) of Dublin, Helen Ann (Mrs.
Earl Elliott) of Dublin, Margaret (Mrs.
Rolly Vanstone) of Hensall and Linda
(Mrs. Alymer James) of Wingham; and
sons, James E. and William C., both of
Egmondville.
Also surviving are 33 grandchildren and
57 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was predeceased by three
sisters, Annie Oldfield, Winnie Knott and
Mabel Neubaurer; one brother Harry; and
three grandsons.
Friends were received at the Whitney-
Ribey Funeral Home in Seaforth and
funeral services were held June 7 at the
funeral home. Interment Egmondville
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Brown Jr., Bill
Brown Jr., John Racho, Rick Elliott,
Joseph Vanstone, Ronnie James, Bill H.
Brown and Brad Borland.
Flower bearers were Denton Chambers,
Donnie Brown, Steve Eckert Jr., Douglas
Higgins, Gary Vanstone, Shawn Brown,
Dean Glanville and Debbie Carter.
NORMA DAVINA JEFFERY
Norma Davina Jeffery of Seaforth, died
Friday, June 16, 1989 at the Seaforth Com-
munity Hospital. She was 89.
Born in Wingham the daughter of the
late Harry Jeffery and Davina Barton,
Miss Jeffery was a former secretary for
the Watson and Reid Insurance Company.
She was also a member and Past Worthy
Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star,
'Chapter 233, Seaforth.
By request there was no funeral home
visitation but a memorial service was held
at First Presbyterian Church on Monday,
June 19. Cremation has taken place and a
committal service for the burial of Miss
Jeffery's ashes will be held at Maitland
Bank Cemetery on Friday, June 23 at 3:30
p.m. The Reverend Bill Barber will of-
ficiate. Funeral Director is Ball and
Falconer "Box Funeral Chapel".
GLADYS REITH
Gladys Reith of the Bluewater Rest

died at the Seaforth Community Hospital
on Wednesday, June 14, 1989. She was 78.
Born in Georgetown on June 26;1910, she
was the daughter of the late Edward Hill
and Maude Scott.
She is survived by her husband,
Clarence (Clare) Reith; and one son
Robert and his wife Judy of Waterloo.
Also surviving are: one sister Jean
(Mrs. Jack Cunningham) of Georgetown;
one brother Ross Hill of Toronto; and two
grandchildren, Heather and John Reith of
Waterloo.
Mrs. Reith was predeceased by two
sisters, Edna (Mrs. Charles Ward) and
Jessie (Mrs. Peter Tost), and one brother,
Percy Hill.
Friends called at the Ball and Falconer
"Box Funeral Chapel" in Seaforth and a
funeral service was held on Saturday,
June 17.. Reverend Dickey officiated. In-
terment Harpurhey Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: grandson, John
Reith, and William Smith, Walter McClure
and Bob McMillan.
