Tuesday, June 6 is the 45th Anniversary
of "D" Day. This was the beginning of
the end of hostilities and will never be
forgotten by those members of the Army
Navy and Airforce who took part in this
massive operation. Some of -the local
Veterans took part in the "D" Day inva-
sion of Europe. In .the following year
many thousands of Canadian service men
and women lost their lives before the
final capitulation of Germany.
On Sunday, May 14 Decoration Day
was observed by the Branch. A Canadian
flag was placed on the graves of deceas-
ed Veterans. Anyone knowing of a grave
inadvertently missed please contact the
Branch and the error will be recitified
immediately.
Saturday, June 17 a steak barbecue is

being hosted by the Fraternal Affiliates.
Tickets are available at the Branch.
There will be entertainment from 4 to 7
p.m. This Is in conjunction with the 60th An-
niversary of the Branch 156.
The annual Men's Golf Tournament is
being held on Saturday, June 24. A list is
on the bulletin board so please sign your
name to let the committee know how
many to expect.
Manor residents enjoy ice cream
It's been another busy week at the Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs.
Seaforth Manor. The week started off Bill Scott who celebrated their 46th Wed -

On Tuesday morning Grade 6 Public
School students visited. Dennis Arney, a
blind resident explained how he does his
hanger craft to the children. "A day at
the horse races" was also enjoyed by
Mort Mann and Doris Smith. In the after-
noon Carol Carter tickled the ivories as
residents had a sing -a -long in the Dining
Room.
On Wednesday morning several ladies
had their hair done. Cheryl Ann
Stadelbauer-Sampa led the weekly church
service. A special thanks to Mina Scott,
pianist, and to the ladies and gentlemen
from the church that attended.
Thursday afternoon brought the first
Ice Cream Parlour of summer. Residents
enjoyed the multi -flavored treats.
Friday morning the ladies went to work
cleaning rhubarb. Thanks to Yearly
Dimaline for bringing it in. While the
ladies were cleaning, Pat Ryan and
Maria Goovaerts were preparing tickets
to sell for the Alzheimer's raffle. The
Manor has some special events planned
for Nursing Home Week June 17-24 to
help raise money for Alzheimer's
Research. Of key interest •is the
Strawberry Social June 17 from 2 to 4
p.m. On Friday afternoon Mamie Ross,
Jenny Hildebrand and Maria Goovaerts
enjoyed an outing to Lions Park. Several
residents were out for walks or just out
enjoying the nice weather.
Saturday morning the monthly
residents council meeting was held.
President Pat Ryan and vice president
Edith Jessome handled concerns of
residents. An update on the Manor
renovations was given by Pat.
Club disc sses pialats
The McKillop No. 1 Rosebuddies held
their first meeting on May 16 on the back
lawn of .the Stewarts property.
The roll call was taken and then the of-
ficers were elected as follows: president,
Sherry Bennett, vice president, Nancy
Stewart, secretary, Sherry Rumford,
treasurer, Jane Bennett and press
reporter, Connie McClure.
During the first meeting members com-

kinds of landscaping.
The second meeting of the Rosebuddies
was held May 23 at the home of Donna
Bennett.
During this meeting members learnt
about different types of plants, their uses
and where they grow best. They also had
two presentations by youth leaders
Jonathan Wheatley and Barbara
Glanville.
The next meeting will be held on May
30 at the Bennetts starting at 6:30 p.m.

sary. Viola Lawson brought in a lovely
cake for residents to share. Congratula-
tions to both couples, we wish you every
happiness.
Get Well Wishes are extended to Mel
Hulley and Norma Jeffrey, both are in
Stratford Community Hospital.
Plans are still being finalized for the
Drumhead Service being held on Satur-
day, July 1. President Mel would like as
many members of the Branch and Aux-
iliary and the public to attend this
Canada Day event at Victoria Park at 2
p.m.
Seniors Chairman Murray Ross has ar-
ranged a Seminar on Canada Pensions on
June 14. All Seniors and persons nearing
retirement who would like information on
Canada Pension are invited to attend at
2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
There is an Executive meeting this
Thursday evening at 8 p.m. and the last
general meeting a week from Thursday
before the summer break.
The Branch was saddened to hear of
the passing of Comrade John Mero and
Auxiliary Comrade Elizabeth Brown
recently. To their families we extend
sincere sympathies in the loss of ,their
loved ones. A Legion Service was held for
John Mero Sunday night, and the Aux-
iliary service for Elizabeth Brown was
held on Tuesday.
They grow not old as we that are left
grow old. Age shall not weary them nor
the years condemn. At the going down of
the sun and in the morning we will
remember them.

Seaforth couple celebrates 50th
Viola and Lorne Lawson of Seaforth,
celebrated the occasion of their 50th an-
niversary with family and friends on
Saturday.
Married by the Reverend A.W. Gardiner
in the Egmondville Manse on June 3, 1939,
the Lawsons have been residents of the
Town of Seaforth for 24 years: Prior to that
they farmed for 26 years at Lot 13, Conces-
sion 7 of Hullett Township.
Born and raised in Colbourn Township,
Mr. Lawson attended Radio College in

some years worked on the assembly lines of
De Forest Crosley, and Strongberg. Up until
recently he was an active member of the
Huron Strings, and was known to most peo-
ple as a first rate mouth organist.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawson are members of
First Presbyterian Church in Seaforth, and
Mrs. Lawson was once a member ofits
choir. She is also a past president (twice) of
the Seaforth Women's Institute. Mrs.
Lawson was born and raised in Kinburn.
Barbara J. Box, daughter of Mary E. Box of
R.R, N1 Bayfield and the late Richard S. Box,
and Travis A. Postill, son of Garth and Patricia '
Postill of R.R. #3 Clinton announce their for-
thcoming marriage. The wedding will take place
on June 17, 1989 at St. James Roman Catholic
