The annual Ladies Invitational Golf Tour-
nament took place on Saturday, June 3. with
a field of 40 golfers. Defending champion,
Ann Adams of Seaforth and former cham-
pion Shirly Lark from Chicago Illinois were
tied after 17 holes of play. On the 18th Ann
hit her second shot into the water hazard m
front of the green and ended with a double
bogey 6. Shirty, who had won the tourna-
ment seven times previously, just made it
over the hazard with her second shot.
Shirly's excellent chip shot left her close to
the hole and she one putted for a par and the
championship with a final score of 78.
Mrs. Lark is originally from St. Mary's,
Ontario and still has relatives residing
there. She first entered ,the tournmaent
while visiting the area several years ago.
Shirty has come back to defend her title
from as far away as Louisiana, Ohio, and
now Illinois.
Last year Seaforth's Ann Adams broke
Lark's winning streak by shooting an ex-
cellent 77, and .unfortunately for Seaforth's
ladies the Adams family is moving within
the month to.Swift.Current, Saskatchewan.
While living in the area Ann has won several
eventsdritikio;csertahllyypeeked up the ladies
golf in the area. We wish hern:weli.in Swift
Current along with.Roger and the girls.
The only consolation is that I'm sure Ann
will return next year .to try to regain the
championship and Shirty will return to de-
fend it.
The change in the tournament date to an
earlier time of the season contributed to the
smaller field, however many ladies were
pleased to have the event on a Saturday
when the weather was. cooler and the course
is in better shape than in hot and dry July.
Other winners were: 2nd low gross 1st
