farmers .pleased ~to see import controls
The Canadian Federation of Agriculture
is pleased to see that broiler hatching eggs
And ,chicks have finally been placed on the
-import control list.
The Canadian Broiler Hatching Egg
Marketing Agency was established in 1986.
,Since .then the Agency .and :the .Canadian
Federation Agriculture have worked
Ailigently to. give the Agency the .powers to
rsnake it effective. In order to have a Na-
tional Supply Idanagement system that
-.works, imports as -well -as domestic produc-
tion must be'managed.
"It has taken iii,great.deaboLhard work,
discipline and co-ordination en .the part of
producers, and we.arevery,pleasedthat the
&process is finally complete," ,said CFA
President Don Knoerr. "We are confident
that this is going to be in the general best in-
terests of both -producers and consumers."
Canada has scrupulously followed GATT
rules in setting up the National Supply
Management system for Broiler Hatching
Eggs And Chicks, and will respect the
historical rights of our trading .partners
when -we -establish quotas and set the details
of the import controls.
"The decision to finally establish import
controls for the CBHEMA,has-increased our
confidence in the government's commit-
ment to clearer, moreeffective GATT rules,
and to our National Supply 'Management
systems which function effectively within
thossrules," said Mr. Knoerr.
