It was a special night; tprepared''for the Dunior Volunteers, +theirlparents•and families. The regular meetingsf the Hospital Aux- iliary was chaired by 'President Mrs. M. Smale. {Reports were ;briefly given' by some committee members. A lull report of the Penny Sale will 'be given at a later date. Thanks were extended to all who par- ticipated in any way, aisotolthe merchants of the'area for their support, and to Wayne Cronin for the use of his van. Tile June dinner will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at•6:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion $7.4 a ticket. This year it is a special event since the Auxiliary is honoring Past HOSPITAL DONATION - The Junior,Volunteers have been selling tickets on a draw tor a quilt, and at their achievement night Brian Van de Ban and Maryanne Moylan presented Hospital Administrator Don Smith with $274. Following the regular meeting the Awards Night was 'held. Special guests at this event were Don Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, Joan Whyte representing the Board of Governors, and Yvonne Kitchen, Director of Volunteer Services. The guest speaker for the evening was Terri Gould, Who is the daughter of Jim and Ellen Gould. Terri is a graduate of Seaforth District High School, and attended a two year program on Child Studies at the University of Guelph, and also attended The Faculty of Education at the University of Western Ontario. She has just recently ac- cepted a teaching position with the Roman Catholic Separate School Board in Simcoe County. Terri was also a former Junior Volunteer. She addressed the Volunteers and their parents on the importance of volunteering and the learning and growing process which comes from it. Her praises of the Program and the Auxiliary were generous and sincere. Amanda Phillips thanked Terri for her speech on behalf of the Auxiliary members. Awards were then given for the number of hours volunteered, pins, plaques and a ceramic rose were given to the junior volunteers, as well as corsages, presented on behalf ofwthe Board of Governors. The certificates were as follows:. Kris McNaughton -'80 hours, Leanne Dohnage - 90 hours, Shelly Lansink - 110 hours, Eric Johnston -120 hours, Niki Phillips 135 Flours, Brian Van den Ban 160 hours, Karen Ward - 195 Hours, Amanda Phillips 240 hours, Maryanne Moylan - 350 hours. Suzanne Dinsmore was presented with a parting gift, as she has now moved up to the Senior Volunteers. She received a certificate for 500 hours. Also four new members were in- troduced - Jackie Benneweis, Carrie Ban- non, Jennifer Marion and Vicki Lansink. This presentation was made to Don Smith C.E.O. of the Seaforth Hospital, Niki Phillips thanked the auxiliary for the special evening. Congratulations were extended from Don Smith, Joan Whyte and Yvonne Kitchen. Frances Teatero - Liason Officer of the Junior Volunteer Program thanked all the parents who encouraged their young adults to take an active interest in their communi- ty. The evening ended with a special cake and refreshments being served. The Region Two Spring Conference was held on Monday, April 24 at the Exeter Com- munity Centre in Exeter. Those attending from Seaforth were Marg Smale, Susan Dick, Pat Bennett, Pauline Bennett, Janet Cluff, Elsie Dinsmore, Wilma Oke, Marion ' Margaret Mennell, Frances Teatero, and Marion McLean. The meeting was chaired by Alice Moore, District President and greetings were ex- tended by Veria Russell, President of the South Huron District Hospital. Reports were given by Fran Taylor Secretary - Treasurer of the Region. Julie Lee from the Survival Through Friendship House in Goderich was the morning speaker. Her topic was on fami- ly violence. Her speech was quite frank and many statistics which she quoted on batter- ing and social attitudes, and intimate violence were informative. An awareness of the programs and help in the area were explained. The workshops were on Tray Favors, Drug use and abuse and, Break Open Lot- tery Tickets. The oldest member in attendance at this function was an auxilian from Goderich who is in her 80th year. The member with the most serving years was an auxilian with 35 working years. Peg Menzies brought greetings from the Canadian Hospital Aux- iliary Association and Andrea Porter from H.A.A.O. Also bringing greetings were Don Carrell, Administrator of South Huron District Hospital and Bruce Shaw, Mayor of Exeter. After a luncheon a special Fashion Show was given with spring and summer fashions from Perry Originals of Exeter. The com- mentator made this a most enjoyable event. There were 172 delegates and five guests at this conference. The membership was also informed that it was 27 years ago that the word "women's" was dropped from the auxiliaries. The ex- ecutive for the 1989 year was installed, and the,.lforinewogd .Hospital Auxiliary ,in .:Kit-. chener has offered to host the Fall Con- ference on Monday, September 25, 1989. The conference was adjourned. See you next month.
