very convincing and had indicated the en-
tire county was behind the conversion from
rails to trails.
"Municipalities do have a say in what
happens to these right-of-ways. Makes a
presentation. You've got a show of
strength,” said Mr, Thomas.
Both he and Mr. Tosine commented that
the Interministerial Committee has
developed a strict set of criteria for alter-
native use of the rail lines, and will have to
be certain that conversion is a viable alter-
native before it would rule in its favor. They
also commented that the Interministerial
Committee can not make any decisions
regarding use of the land, only recommen-
dations. They said they have no figures on
possible cost of conversion, and noted that
as far as they know, no comprehensive
studies have been completed on any of the
right-of-ways.
"We don't know what the cost would be,”
said Mr. Thomas, "The committee is only
trying to draw some knowledge on
converting."
"There's the issue of liability to convert.
We have to be assure that conversion is a
viable step," said Mr, Testae.
In response to a request to reveal his per-
sonal opinion of the Goderich to Guelph rail
line, as a scenic attraction, Mt, Tosme ad-
mitted it was "not his cup of tea", and was
told by the farmers that they agreed.
"I'm a trail user and I should actually be
in favor of it (rails to trails), But I'm not,"
said Arnold Egli.
"There's hardly any people in the provin-
cial ,parks, and I'm questioning, 'Do we
need more parks?' They all have to be:polic-
ed and looked after for waste pollution
Farmers asked whether re -zoning would
be necessary and :were told it would be
dependent on the leniency of the towtship
pleas,

very convincing and had indicated the en-

"Municipalities do have a say in what
happens to these right-of-ways. Makes a
presentation. You've got a show of
strength,” said Mr, Thomas.
Both he and Mr. Tosine commented that
the Interministerial Committee has
developed a strict set of criteria for alter-
native use of the rail lines, and will have to
be certain that conversion is a viable alter-
native before it would rule in its favor. They
also commented that the Interministerial
Committee can not make any decisions
regarding use of the land, only recommen-
dations. They said they have no figures on
possible cost of conversion, and noted that
as far as they know, no comprehensive
studies have been completed on any of the
right-of-ways.
"We don't know what the cost would be,”
said Mr. Thomas, "The committee is only
trying to draw some knowledge on
converting."
"There's the issue of liability to convert.
We have to be assure that conversion is a
viable step," said Mr, Testae.
