Policeman injured in Sunoco scuffle
A 21 -year-old Seaforth man is being
charged with Resisting Arrest, Causing a
Disturbance, and Mischief (damage to pro-
perty )
ro-
perty) under $1,000, after he struggled with
police and injured a police officer at the
Sunoco service station in Seaforth Monday
night at approximately 10:15.
Constable Harro Maydell was called to the
Sunoco service station when the attendant
reported a disturbance. The man causing
the disturbance resisted Constable Maydell,
and the officer struggled with the man in the
station and across the lot, but eventually got
him into the police cruiser.
In the cruiser, the man kicked or punched
the window out of the rear door of the vehi-
cle, and in an ensuing struggle Constable
Maydell was cut by glass on the head.
Constable Dave Dale was called to assist
at about 10:30. When the situation was under
control the two men were taken to the
Seaforth community hospital where the
wound in Constable Maydell's head was
closed with three stitches, and the arrested
man's hands were treated for lacerations.
The man has been released and will ap-
pear in court May 1 in Goderich.
Hospital addition burglarized
The addition to the Seaforth Community
Hospital was burglarized over the weekend.
Seaforth Police are investigating the
Break, Enter and Theft which occured
sometime on or between April 14 to 17.
Stolen from the addition, which is still
under construction, was approximately $900
in materials including a propane heater,
drum fan, some insulation and drywall
screws. The contractors Melloul-Blarney
were the owners of the stolen equipment.
Town approves purchase of mower attachment
Public Works Superintendent John For-
rest has been authorized by council to pur-
chase a six foot grass cutting attachment for
the Trackless MT Snowblower/Tractor. The
approximate cost of that unit is $1,500 plus
sales tax.
The attachment would be used by the
Recreation Department for the outside
maintenance of the High School Baseball
Diamond, the Arena, Victoria Park, The
Town Hall and the Library Properties. It
may also be used to provide contract grass
cutting to other agencies, which would in
turn help pay for the capital expenditure. It
is estimated grass cutting in 1988, of the
above named properties, cost a little over
$1,600.
In light of the approved purchase of this
mower, Seaforth Recreation Director Marty
Bedard, has also been authorized to hire„a
full time employee, at a rate of $$.50 per

hour, to maintain the Town's parks and
recreation facilities for the 1989 sununer
season. In the past a number of part time
employees have been hired, resulting in in-
consistency in the maintenance.
It was suggested, with the introduction of
streetscaping to the Town of Seaforth, and
the new additions to Victoria Park, that full
time maintenance by the same person,
would better serve the town's needs.
