The Huron County Board of Education
plan to transfer three high school prin-
cipals this fall should be put to rest say,
board Chairman John Jewitt
The board met last Mande r- i' ('liner
and listened to student: frni: ('entre
Huron Seconded School CRSS wh
disagree with the decisinr' to rnm • In:
Wooden to Exeter South Huron
The move will also switch Goderich
District Collegiate's r (MCI) Herb Murphi
en F.E Madill fn Wingham and Exeter's
Bruce Shaw to GDC
After listening to the students Mr
Jewitt re-emphasized the board's position
"1 tried to indicate ir; terms that
everyone could understand. because the)
did not seen) to understand last month
that the decision was a decision that tht
board was comfortable witti and there
something that has been really good, for
the unknown
During the turmoil which arose from
last month's decision, both the board and
the principals have chosen their words
carefully because they realize the
employer-employee relationship will con-
tinue after everything has died down
When asked whether Mr Shaw's
transfer from Exeter had anything to do
with a conflict with his mayoral duties,
Mr Jewitt said, " I don't want to give out
any information that is going to harm
anybody These people have to go into the
snhools and perform."
"Because of that, the board has given
me counsel that we stress the positive ends
of the transfers. What you have suggested,
I don't think would be positive and I would
like to stress that you suggested it "
As far as Mr. Shaw is concerned there
has never been any conflict with his two
jobs
"1 don't take time from one job to do the
other or at the expense of the other. As far
as 1 know unless somebody is not telling;
me something it is not a concern of the
board " he said.
One thing that did concern Mr Jewitt
was the students who fought to keep their
principals. Especially the students of
CHSS who bought a, full page ad in the
March 29 edition of the Clinton News -
Record
"The students deserve a lot of credit
The) were doing what they believe in,"
said Mr. Jewitt
"I don't know what it cost to run a full
page ad, but I'm sorry to see the money
spent because there are people that knew
the decision was final "
"The students were getting some
guidance that they shouldn't have been
getting. They were misled a bit. That's all
I'll say"
Mr. Wooden preferred not to comment
on the matter, but did say. "I feel a great
deal of gratitude toward the entire school
and its community. The issue appears to.
be closed.''
