Cool, wet weather in B.C. has nelavec
the spring daffodil crop. which puts the
local Canadian Cancer Society fundrais-
ing drive at least a week behind schedule
"We're beguiling to'question whethe-
we'll get the daffodils at all this year '
says the society's Huron County puble
relations coordinator.
Dorothy Venkiteswaren said Monday
most of the counties annual daffodil fun-
draising events. including Saturday after-
' noon's Daffodil Tea at Victoria St. Unitec
Church in Goderich. will proceed even
without the daffodils.
"We're hoping the people will contribute
anyway," said Venkiteswaren.
Last year, Huron Count/ residents pur-
chased 6,000 bunches of daffodils; which
raised more than'$15,200 toward the socie-
ty's research and other programs. Na-
tionally • six million daffodils were sola.
raising $1.8 million.
The little yellow flowers. which bout
become symbolic of the battle against the
disease, were to have beets available this
weekend for sale in malas, businesses and
at fundraising events. Delivery of pre -sold
bunches, mall bookings and other events
must now be replanned throughout
Southwestern Ontario.
The daffodils are now expected to be
available April 21 and 12.
Despite delays. Venkiteswaren said
local society workers stilt hope to sell 6,600
bunches and raise more than $16,000 in
Huron County.
