Bantams win OMH
The Seaforth Bantams have won the
OMHA semi-finals against Dresden in three
games straight.
The boys won game two in Seaforth on
Tuesday night 7-4. Seaforth struck early in
the first period with a goal by Jason Muir
assisted by Ted Sills and Jason McNichol.
Three minutes later Ted Sills scored
Seaforth's second goal assisted by Jason
McNichol. In the last two minutes of the
period Jason McNichol scored to put
Seaforth ahead by three goals
In the second period Dresden came back
to tie the score. Shane Cooper assisted by
Jason McNichol put Seaforth ahead once
again but Dresden bed the game up again
before the end of the second period.
However, period three was all Seaforth's
game, Jason McNichol scored unassisted at
the four minute mark. Moments later, Jeff
Weber's brilliant play in goal stopped e
Dresden three man break away and gave
Seaforth the incentive they needed. They
never looked back. Kevin McLlwam scored
twice in the last four minutes of play. Steve
Papple assisted on the first goal and the se-
cond was into the open net
The team won the third game Friday
night 6-0. Kevin McLtwam got the first goal
of the garne assisted by Doug Campbell and
Brad Schroeder
In the second period, three goals were
scored within two minutes. Ted Sills scored.
assisted by Brent van den Akker and Jason
McNichol. Jason McNichol assisted by Ted
Sills and Brent van den Akker, scored a
minute and 30 seconds later and after 20
more seconds Steve Papple scored assisted
by Kevin McLlwam.and Jason Muir

WOAA championship
The Seaforth Novice hockey team has won
the Western Ontario Athletic Association
(WOAAI Championship. The tearr won the
title after three straight wins over Durham.
On March 24, the Durham Novice team
came to Seaforth to play the second game in
the bestof-five playoff series against the
,,,nal Novice team. The Seaforth boys had
already won one eame and were hoping to
be the WOAA Novice champion- before
Easter.
Durham ctaried the senrir, in the first
period but Seaforth tie( a up after on,
minute r f nia' in the s, rind period. Scott
Hendersor passed the puck up to Mark Var.
Dooren who was able to get away from his
check, get a shot on the net, and put it into
the top right corner. However, Durham
scored twice more m the second period to
take a 3-1 lead.
Seaforth had to come from behind again
but as usual was determined to pull it off.
Halfway through the third period, Mark Van
Dooren passed to Jered Munro who poked
the next goal in. Mark scored the third goal
from right in front of the goalie just before
he was pulled down. The score at the end of
regulation time was Durham 3 Seaforth 3.
A 10 minute 'overtime period started im-
mediately and after only one and a half
minutes, Derek Smith passed the puck up to
Mark Van Dooren who took off on a
breakaway, waited until the goalie went
down, and slid it in around him. With three
and a half minutes left to play in the over-
time period, Derek Smith took a pass from
Brandon Nash and popped it into the net.
The final score was Seaforth 5 Durham 3.
Charles Robertson played a strong game in
goal.
The neat day, Durham came to town
again for what proved to be a very exciting
game with a tension -filled third period. Ben.
Murray poked in the first goal assisted by
Michael Mullin and Bruce Griffin, On the
next goal, Jered Munro aimed a hard shot at
the net and Rob Craig tipped it in. Seafortt
was leading 2-0 after one period
Only one goal was scored in the seconr,
period. Mark Van Dooren had a breakaway
from his blue line and took the puck in alone
and scored. For the first time in the series,
Seaforth had a comfortable lead
Seaforth started the scoring in the last
period. The team was putting the pressure
on the Durham goalie but couldn't get one in
the net. Finally, the puck came out loose to
Mark Van Dooren who shot high and scored
Assists went to Scott Van Dooren and Jered
Munro. The score was Seaforth 4 Durham 0
At the 9:57 mark of the third perioc
Durham scored a power play goal that
sparked their team and their fans. In the
next minute of play they managed to get two
more goals past the defense and goaltender
Charles Robertson. There were still nine
minutes to play and Seaforth now had only a
one goal lead. There was lots of action, pass-
ing and checking but the Seaforth team was
able to defeat the Durham boys even when
they pulled their goalie for the last minute of
play. The final score was Seatorth 4 Durham
3.
'This win gave the Seaforth team the
WOAA Novice Championship. Mark Var,
Dooren, captain of the Seaforth team. was
presented the trophy and the team did a vic-
tory skate around the arena
Tweens wiry Huron -Perth title
The Seaforth Tweens finished their
regular season play by winning the
Huron—Perth League Championship. This
was the second year in a row the Tweens
have won the championship. and they did so
by defeating Mitchell two games straight.
The first game with Mitchell was played in
Seaforth on March 19. Mitchell started out
strong by scoring a quick goal with only 30
seconds gone in the period. Seaforth re-
bounded on a goal scored by Cheryl McLI-
wain assisted by Kim Rau. From then on.the
score see -sawed back and • forth until the
1:31 mark of the second period when Kim
Rau scored from the circle to put Seaforth
ahead by one. The Tweens hung on to their
one goal lead to win 4-3.
Cheryl McLiwain added the second goal of
the game assisted by Kim Rau and Rau add-
ed the third goal assisted by McLiwain..An-
drea ,Gingerich played well in net, and all
other players also played well.
In the second game which was played in
Mitchell on March 21, the Tweens were keen
to put Mitchell out and did so by winning 4-1
Andrea Gingerich played an excellent
game in net by stopping a lot of Mitchell',
shots.
At the end of the first period Seaforth was
in the lead 2-1. In the second Seatorth over-
powered Mitchel: by scoring twr
unanswered goals. Kin. Rau scored three
goals in this game and Chert'. McLlwair
scored one Robyn Carnochan hao twr
assists. Katie Craig - 1 and JIL Wooc
Congratulations to all girls for games wel
played.

by going to the, Western Regional • "C"
Finalist Tournament which is hosted by
Chatham. The Tweens play their games in'
Glencoe. Good luck to all and bring home
the gold medal again.
Big Es come up with . big win
For the second week in a row. the Big E's
have come up with a big wm, deteatmg the
Wanderers 3 to 1.
John Aubin was the leader for the Big E's
as he threw a power game of 271,183 and 177
for 631. Erich Matzold rolled along as he had
scores of 239, 217 and 149 for 605. Jon Knight
started slow but when he got going he never
looked back as he shot 103, 210 and 278 for
591.
Doug Vock led the Wanderers as he scat-
tered the pins to the count of 303, 233 and 179
for 710. Doug Procter had a fair night as he
bowled totals of 251,197 and 156 for 604. Gary
Bedard had an uphill battle but by the end of
the night the pins started to fall for counts of
236, 182 and 168 for 586.
The Aces did it again as they defeated the
second place Bowl Shippers by the score of 3
to 1. Mike Meidinger led the Aces hitting for
games of 238, 213 and 163 for 614. Deb
Hoekstra came out of nowhere to knock the
pins down to the count of 204, 199 and 124 for
527. Janet Moody had three fine games roll-
ing 200, 170 and 154 for 524.
Don Deighton was the leader for the Bowl
Shippers as he shattered the pins to scores
of 295, 204 and 190 for 689. Mel Merriam still
knows how to throw a ball as he bad totals of
214, 168 and 158 for 540. Mark McKellar had
a hard time on the lanes as he had scores of
200, 140 and 139 for 479.

Will-Nots 3 to 1. Karl Teichert led the
Boomers with great scores of 288, 247 anc
173 for 708. Janice Leonhardt had an excep-
tional night as she hammered the pins tr
games of 219, 209 and 195 for 623. Pat Ryer,
had a good night as he had totals of 195, 189
and 158 for 542.
Dan Bennewies led the Will-Nots with
good games of 254, 234 and 204 for 692. Steve.
Steep had a sharp eye as he rifled games of
235, 200 and 162 for 597. Ralph Johnston wit-
right on Steve's heels as he threw totals of
212, 211 and 164 for 587.
