YOUNG CANADA WEEK WINNERS - The Seaforth Peewees emerged the consolation cham-
pions in the D division of the Young Canada Week hockey tournament hosted by the Goderich photo.
Lions Club this week. The PeeWees won the consolation after.defeating Brussels 3-2 in sudden
death overtime on Friday. Prior to that the PeeWees had beaten Goderich 9-2. Williscraft
Seaforth Novice win She!bourne hockey tournament
On Sunday, March 12, the Seaforth Novice
hockey team travelled to Exeter for an ex-
hibition game. Although the team was miss-
ing 3 players, the boys managod a 4-1 win.
Exeter started the scoring with one goal in
the first period. Seaforth came back with
three goals in the second and one goal in the
third. Mark Van Dooren scoredpree times
and Scott Van Dooren once. Assists were
earned by Derek Smith (2), Jeremey
McNichol and Bruce Griffin.
On Tuesday, March 14, the Novice team
travelled to Shelbourne for' a tournament.
This time two players were missing_ The
boys were guaranteed two games and would
play a third game if they made it to the
finals.
In the first game, the Seaforth team faced
a strong team from Bracebridge, but the
boys were up to the challenge. They skated
well and Mark Van Dooren was able to net
three goals. Bracebridge was only about to
get one past goalie Charles Robertson.
Assists .were given to Bruce Griffin (2),
Grandon Nash (2) and Jered Munro. The
final score was Seaforth 3, Bracebridge 1.
The Bracebridge team went on to win the
consolation round.
The second game was played against
Strathroy. Josh Dietz was awarded the shut
out in the 7-0 Seaforth victory. Jeremey
McNichol was the leading scorer with four
goats. Mark Van Dooren scored two and
Brandon Nash got one. Assists were earned
by Brandon Nash (2), Mark Van Dooren (2),
Derek Smith, Scott Van Dooren, Charles
Robertson, Pat Coyne and Michael Mullin.
With these two wins the boys had worked
their way into the championship against
Drayton. This time the shut out was award-
ed to Charles Robertson in a 5-0 victory.
Mark Van Dooren led the scoring with two
goals. Other scorers were Derek Smith,
Scott Van Dooren and Brandon Nash.
Assists went to Ben Murray, Scott Van
Dooren, Brandon Nash, Josh Dietz and
Mark Van Dooren. The boys each brought
home a beautiful trophy for all their hard
work.
The team should also be praised for play-
ing a penalty -free tournament. Good work,
guys!
The Novice team has also begun their best
of five championship series against
Durham. They travelled to Durham on
Thursday night, March 16, for a tough game
that went into overtime.
Once again the Seaforth boys slept
through the first half of the game as
Durham got a three -goal lead. With only 38
seconds left to play in the second period
Jered Munro passed the puck over the Scott
Van Dooren who let a high shot go from the
face off circle and beat the goalie. Durham
started the scoring in the third period to
regain their three goal lead but it was the
last goal they were to score that night.
Aces flying thigh in Thursday night action
The high flying Aces rolled over the
Boomers for a 3 to 1 win in Thursday night
bowling. Deb Bedard led the Aces with fine
scores. of 279, 154 and 131 for 564. Mike
Meidinger was right on her heels as he
threw games of 233, 169 and 157 for 559.
Deb Hoekstra has really been turning it on
since the beginning of the playoffs as she
rolled games of 179,143 and 135 for 457. Neil
Beuerman led the Boomers, throwing
scores of 266, 208 and 148 for 623. Pat Ryan
always giving his all knocked the pins down
for totals of 192, 184 .and 182 for 558. Jack
The Will-Nots made a clean sweep of the
Wanderers as they got four points. Ralph
Johnston led the Will-Nots as he scattered
the pins for scores of 337, 216 and 139 for 692.
Steve Steep bad a great night as he hit for
games of 239, 205 and 198 for 642. Dave
Moody had a fair night as the pins just didn't
fall ashe had counts of 197, 159 and 153 for
509. Doug Procter led the Wanderers as he
threw games of 215, 175 and 173 for 563.
Joanne Knight pulled up her socks as she
bad scores of 209, 194 and 151 for 554. Doug
Vock quartered the pins to death as he had
Ungarian rolled along as he had scores of games of 190,188 and 174 for 552.
191, 186 and 165 for 542. The Big E's shocked the Bowl Shippers for
Seaforth took control with Mark Van Dooren
scoring an unassisted goal on a high shot
from the face-off circle. Then Pat Coyne
passed over to Mark who poked it in the cor-
ner of the net. Derek Smith passed up to
Mark who was then on a breakaway and he
scored again. This made the game a 4-4 tie
at the end of regulation time.. A 10 minute
overtime period started immediately. The
teams played four minutes before the winn-
ing goal was scored. Bruce Griffin passed
the puck up to Derek Smith who then passed
it over to Brandon Nash. He took a shot -from
a sharp angle to the goalie's left and it hit
the mark. The boys played hard for the next
six .minutes to retain their lead and were
successful.
The next two games in the series are in
Seaforth on Friday, March 24 and Saturday,
March 25. Good luck, boys!

Peewee lis
win consolation
at Young Canada
Seaforth's Pee Wee II team started the
Young Canada Hockey Week in ,Goderich
with a loss of 9-0 against Watford Monday
morning, but ended up the consolation
champions.
The Pee Wee II team began their com-
eback Monday afternoon when they blasted
Goderich 9-2.
In the first period, goals were scored by
Jeremy Somerville assisted by Dave
McKay, Jim Crowley assisted by Darryl
Haney and Dan Dalton and Dan Dalton
assisted by Darryl Haney.
In the second period all three goals were
scored by Dan Dalton assisted by Derek
Gridzak, Steve Van Den Hengel and Jim
Crowley.
In the third period Jamie McNichol scored
assisted by Dave. McKay and Jeremy
Somerville and Mike Coyne scored twice,
unassisted.
Signal -Star's three stars were 1. Dan
Dalton, Seaforth, 2. Mike Smale, Seafroth
and 3. Jim Crowley, Seaforth.
Seaforth coach Ken Coyne was very pleas-
ed with the overall performance of his team.
The Seafroth Pee Wee II team came back
again Friday morning with another win 4-1
against Huron Park.
Goals were scored by Mike Coyne,
unassisted; Dave McKay, assisted by Jamie
McNichol and Harold Hugil; Jim Crowley,
assisted by Derek Gridzak and Darryl
Haney, assisted by Dan Dalton and Mike
Coyne.
The boys were pleased to win this game. It
meant they were in the finals.
Friday night was here and the boys were
keen to play their last game against
Brussels. The game started out with
Brussels scoring the first two goals. Getting
those goals were Dave Lewington, assisted
by Randy Beuerman; and Randy Beuer-
man, assisted by Trevor Machan.
In the second period Seaforth came back
scoring two goals. Scoring were Jamie
McNichol, unassisted and Dan Dalton,
assisted by Derek Gridzak and Jamie
McNichol.
Now the game was tied up 2-2. No goals
were scored in the third period. The game
became very tense. It could go either way
now. The game went into 10 minutes sudden
death overtime.
Dan Dalton scored the winning goal
unassisted.
The boys were so happy they skated
around the ice with their trophy. The fans
were going wild with happiness. The coach
Ken Coyne was overwhelmed. A big thank
you to Ken for his time and support from all
the boys and the parents. Thanks again
Ken, you were great.
On behalf of the boys and the parents
thanks also to Jim Moore and Ken Swan for
the excellent coaching all year. Their time
and concern was greatly appreciated. There
would not have been a second Pee Wee team
-vithoutthem. Thank you.

as she had power games of 258, 224 and 142
for 624. Erich Matzold was just back from
holidays, and as each game went by the
rustiness broke off and he had games of 231,
181 and 169 for 581. Pat Deighton made the
most of her pin fall for counts of 188,158 and
155 for 501.
Don Deighton led the Bowl Shippers with
good games of 219, 206 and 188 for 613. Doug
Leonhardt had the pins flying in the first
game but after that nothing seemed to work
as he bad scores of 255, 175 and 162 for 592.
Mel Merriam still likes to bowl, but some
days he says I'd rather not as he had games
of 234, 159 and 149 for 542.
Hensall, doctor surprised on his 'milestone' birthday

Dr. John Goddard celebrated a milestone
birthday on Saturday evening when his
children gathered to take him out to dinner.
Upon his return home, a large group of
friends was waiting to surprise him, as ar-
ranged by his wife Doris.
Susan Campbell and children Jamie and
Lindsey visited in Hensall over the weekend
along with John Maurer, from their new
home in Guelph. They enjoyed the oppor-
tunity to visit with many friends in the area
and to attend the surprise party for Dr. God-
dard and the birthday celebrations with
Brad Hartman.
Joelle Beaver and Janet Mowat of Hensall
spent March break on vacation in the
Dominican Republic. They bad a wonderful
time and returned,hom with great tans.
Andy and Ruth finalise, along with sons
Jason, Gary and Ryan, spent a week vaca-
tioning, in the sun on the island of Jamaica,
and another week cruising the Caribbean.

Hensall Librarystory hour will not be held
next Monday (Easter) but will resume the
following week. Jaki Blair will be leaving
the library this Friday and Susan Hartman
