St. Patrick's Irish Pub Night at St. Colum -
ban hall on Saturday evening.
No Notes Band from Goderich provided
the music and entertainment. During inter-
mission everyone joined in the singing of
many Irish and old time favourite songs led
by Father Hardy who also added to the
entertainment with many Irish stories and
jokes. Lunch was served and a door prize
was won by Ron Ryan.
Wayne and Anne Chapin, William and
Vanessa of Bradford visited on the weekend
with Ted and Frances Melady.
Don and Florence Brady of London visited
on the weekend with Tom and Eileen Sloan.
Sympathy of the community is extended
to the family of Mary McIver who died last
Friday. Mass of the Christian burial was
held on Monday at 1 p.m. at St. James
Catholic Church, Seaforth.

The March meeting of the St. Columban
Catholic Women's League was held on Tues-
day, March 7 in the rectory meeting room
with 13 members present.
Margaret O'Reilly, president, opened the
meeting with the league prayer. Cor-
respondence read by Theresa Cronin includ-
ed a letter from the Thomas family in India
and thank you cards for gifts and flowers.
The annual C.W.L. Diocesan Convention
will be held on May 2-3 at the Holiday Inn in
London.
A Spiritual Reflection Day for the Strat-
ford Deanery will be held on April 5 from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Columban Catholic
Church, St. Columban. The theme is
Women -Sharing in the Life and Mission of
the Church. Father J. Hardy will be
celebrant at Holy Mass and speaker for the
event. Ladies are invited to attend this day
or Spiritual Reflection.
A Good Friday bake sale will be held after
the 3 p.m. celebration of the Liturgy with
proceeds going to a mission in the
Dominican Republican.
The date for the June Social and Tea will
be Wednesday, June 14. The meeting closed
with prayer.
EUCHRE GAME
Eight tables were in play for the last game
of euchre for the season at the Knights. of
Columbus hall, St. Columban.
The winners were: ladies' high - Mary
Coyne; men's high - Jim Delaney; most lone
hands - Mamie Delaney and Derek Maloney
won the door prize. Consolation prize for the
men went to Tom Sloan and Elmer Feeney.
The Knights of Columbus would like to
thank everyone for their support by coming
out to these games.
MCKILLOP IV 4-H REPORT

The fourth meeting of the club "The Knif-
ty Knitters" was held at the home of Liz
Yeates on March 9. Mrs. Yeates explained
the two methods of cleaning the fleece and
EVELYN C. SCHMITPENDORF
Evelyn C. Schmittendorf of West Seneca,
New York, and formerly of St. Columban,
died Monday, March 6,1989, at the St. Fran-
cis Nursing Home, Williamsville.
Born in St. Columban, November 25, 1902,
she was a daughter of the late Peter H.
McGrath and Annie McQuaid.
A graduate of St. Columban Separate
School, Seaforth Collegiate Institute and
Stratford Normal School, she taught for
several years in Bamberg and Tilbury in the
late 1920s before moving to Detroit. In
Detroit she worked for Cook Coffee Com-
pany,, before being transferred to Buffalo,
New York in 1934.
On November 25, 1937 she married
Charles Schmittendorf.
Mrs. Schmittendorf was a long time
employee of New York Motor Carriers Inc.
in Buffalo. After living at Hoover Beach and
Garden Avenue, West Seneca, she lived for
several years at St. Elizabeth's Home in
Lancaster, New York. For the past year she
has lived at St. Francis Home.
Mrs. Schmittendorf is survived by two
sisters, Mary J. McGrath of Scarborough
and Margaret Rafferty and husband Dan of
Brantford.
Aldo surviving are nieces and nephews:
Dan Rafferty and Maureen and Jim
Beechinor of Toronto; Michael and Sharon
Rafferty and Dennis and Sylvia Rafferty, all
of Brantford; Mary Kmahan of Wingham;
Lew and Denise Kennedy of Stouffville;
Reverend Gordon F. Kennedy, CSB,
Calgary, Alberta; and Rita and Don
Moylan, St. Columban; and grandnieces
and grandnephews: Jennifer and Lisa Raf-
ferty; Ryan, Kaitlin and Kristin Rafferty;
Genevieve and Bob Gibson; Gordon, Leo
and Bill Kinahan; Paul and Peter Kennedy;
and Patrick, Marianne, John, Michael and
Kathleen Moylan.
Mrs. Schmittendorf will be sadly missed
by friends Edith Hess and Dorothy Kepler of
West Seneca, New York.
She rested at the Hoy Funeral Home, West
Seneca and a Mass of Christian Burial. was
held at the Queen of Heaven Roman
Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Hope
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul Kennedy, Peter
Ke y, Gordon Kinahan,,Patrick Moylan,
n Rafferty and Michael Rafferty.
GLAD LOUISE CAMPBELL
Glad Louise Campbell of. the Eden Mills
Nursing Home and formerly of Guelph, died
suddenly Monday, March 13, 1989, after a
lengthy illness.
The daughter of the late Berta and
Margaret Gunning (nee Gregor) of Niagara
Falls, she is survived' by her husband Gor-
don of Guelph, and two sons, Gregor of
Seaforth and Gary of Guelph.
Mrs. Campbell is also survived by four
grandchildren,
She was predeceased by one brother,

MARY CATHERINE MCIVER
Mary Catherine McIver of Seaforth, died
Friday, March 10, 1989 at the Seaforth Com-
munity Hopsital. She was 92.
Born in Hullett Township on May 9, 1896,
she was a daughter of the late Dominic
Reynolds and Catherine O'Hara. Mrs.
McIver was a graduate of the Hamilton Nor-
mal School, and was known to many
students as she taught elementary school in
Seaforth and District for over 25 years.
She was a member of St. James Roman
Catholic Church, Seaforth, an honorary
member of its Catholic Women's League, a
retired member of the Ontario Teacher's
Federation, an active member of the Senior
Citizens, and an active volunteer at the
Seaforth Manor.
Mrs. McIver is survived by two
daughters, Lorraine and her husband Mar-
tin Purcell of Kitchener, and Mary
Catherine and her husband Jack Lane of St.
Columban; and two sons, Louis and wife
Anne and Edward and wife Margaret, all of
Dublin.
Also surviving are 18"grandchildren and
14 great grandchildren.
Mrs. McIver was predeceased by her first
husband, Edward Rowland, in 1938; her se-
cond husband, John A. McIver, in 1973; a
sister Frances (Mrs. John Mcnhargey);
and three brothers, Will, Bert and Ernest
Reynolds. •
Friends called at the Ball and Falconer
"Box Funeral Chapel" on High Street in
Seaforth, and a funeral mass was held at St.
James Roman Catholic Church on Monday.
The Reverend C.G. Caruana.. officiated.
Prayers by the CWL of St. James Church,
followed. by Parish Prayers, were. held at
the funeral home on Sunday evening.
Pallbearers were Brian Lane, David Mur-
tha, Murray Purcell, John Rowland, Matt
Claessens and Tom Melady. Honorary
Pallbearers were Alphonse Crtinin,
Lawrence Ryan, Ted Melady and Joe Nolan.
Spring interment in St. Ambrose
Cemetery, Brussels.
WENDY DENOMME
Wendy Jane Denomme of, Goderich, died
Tuesday, March 7, 1989 at the Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. She
was 39.
A daughter of Don Fry of Seaforth, and
the late Phyllis Fry, she is survived by her
husband Gerrard and son Jeremy at home.
Also surviving are three sisters, Charlynn
and husband Jim Brown, Donna and.hus-
band Gary Lawton and Michelle Fry, all of
Seaforth; one brother Doug Fry and wife
Chris of Shakespeare; and nieces and
nephews.
Friends were received at the McCallum
showed some yarn she dyed using walnut
shells and onion skins. After that she
demonstrated how to run her spinning
wheel.
The McKillop IV "Knifty Knitters" would
like to thank Mrs. Yeates for taking the time
to help the group understand more about
wool and how it is spun. The next meeting
will be on March 21 at 7 p.m. at the home of
Carol Ryan.
PEOPLE
Danny O'Connor and daughter Patty
Boldt and her daughter Samatha of
Wetaskiwin, Alberta spent a week visiting
with Danny's parents, Jim and Mary O'Con-
nor. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Ron O'Connor of Shelbourne.
Laura, Les and Shannon Ward of Kit-
chener; Gerry and Karen Ryan, Jason,
Amanda and Jeremy of RR 1, Dublin;
Louise Ryan of Kitchener, Mary Jo and
John Nelson of Lucknow and Debbie Core
and Mark Ryan visited on Sunday with
Clarence and Cecilia Ryan.
A large crowd of people from St. Colum-
bus and surrounding parishes attended the
and Pella funeral, home in Goderich, and a
funeral liturgy was held at the funeral home
on Thursday. Burial was in St. Peter's
Cemetery.
Parish prayers were said Wednesday at
the funeral home.
As expressions of sympathy donations
may be made to the Children's Hospital of
Western Ontario.

DORIS MALONEY
Doris Anna Maloney, formerly of Strat-
ford and Seaforth, died Thursday, March 9,
1989, in the Mitchell Nursing Home. She was
79.
Born at Charlottetown. Prince Edwp - '
Island, March 17, 1914, she was a daugl
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Dennis.
She is survived by her husband, Frank
Maloney, of Ritz Lutheran_ Villa, Mitchell;
five daughters, Lois (Mrs. Karl Schmitt) of
Kitchener, Margaret of London, Mary (Mrs.
''Andre Lachapelle) of Kitchener, Dolores
(Mrs. John Cronin) of Sylvan Lake, Alberta
and Doreen of Stratford; and one son Gor-
don of Stratford.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Whitney-
Ribey funeral home and Mass of Christian
burial was Monday at St. James Roman
Catholic Church in Seaforth. Spring burial
was in St. Columban cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steve Maloney, Ray
Maloney, Leon Maloney, Leonard Maloney,
Jim Maloney and Pat Heenan.
Parish prayers were said Sunday at the
funeral home.
As expressions of sympathy donations
may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
ALICIA COYNE
Alicia Coyne, formerly of Dublin, died
Thursday, March 9,1989 at the Mitchell Nur-
sing Home. She was 89.
Born in Hibbert Township on October 28,
1899, she was a daughter of the late Michael
Coyne and the former Alice Larner. `
She is survived by two brothers, George of
the Ritz Lutheran Villa, Mitchell and Matt
of Dublin; one sister Mary (Mrs. Walter
Kroskie) of Windsor; and nieces and
nephews.
Miss Coyne was predeceased by four
brothers, John, Frank, Joseph and Thomas;
and four sisters, Florence Kahue, Sarah
Coyne, Sister St. Louis (Margaret) and
Sister Mary Alice ( Agnes) ,
Friends were received at the Whitney-
Ribey funeral home and a Mass of Christian
burial was held Saturday at St. Patrick's
Roman Catholic Church), Dublin. Burial was
in the church cemetery.
Parish prayers were said Friday at the
funeral home.
